I guess everyone is ordinary, once you take away the money and notoriety. But we forget all too often that celebrities are, or actually were, exactly like us, before they got famous. They had very ordinary, one might say normal dreams. But hey, sometimes life happens, and you end up joining stardom.
But what happened before that? Thanks to Ranker, now we know what many celebrities wanted to do before they became famous. What were their dreams, their professions? How did they imagine themselves five, or ten years in the future, without the prospect of fame?
In short, let’s imagine an alternate universe. Or a parallel dimension of reality. What would these people be if they weren’t celebrities? Read on to find out.
1. Kim Kardashian would be a forensic scientist
She’s never said this personally, but it’s the best guesstimate we can make. After all, she has all the right skills to get the job, and do it well. Kim’s got a super sharp eye for skin details and attention to photos and selfies, and with her dad’s lawyer genes running through her blood, she’d make one badass CSI forensic investigator.

2. Jennifer Aniston would be a party planner
The famous Friends star once confessed that if she hadn’t been an actress, she would choose to be a party planner instead. Why? Well, according to Jennifer, she absolutely loves organizing her little get-togethers with friends.

3. Harry Styles wanted to be a physiotherapist
If by any chance Harry didn’t end up singing, he knew very well what he would’ve done – a physiotherapist. Or, in ordinary language, a massage therapist. I imagine the ladies (well, some men too!) would have lined up to get a massage by Mr Styles here.
4. Miley Cyrus, a photographer?
Sure, Miley became a star from a younger age than most, but she’s not sure she’d actually always wanted that. Her other dream? Becoming a photographer. In fact, Miley was so invested in it that she even planned about how to go to an art school in London and pursue photography as a career.

5. Angelina Jolie Wanted To Work With Dead People
Angelina Jolie is kind of weird. Having outgrown her “bad girl” years now, and starred in numerously conflicting roles, she once also said that she wanted to direct funerals. Creepy? Well, she was moved to it by her intense grief for her grandfather, when he passed away. Currently, Jolie is also working on her movie career as a movie director, with a backup job as a special envoy to the UN.

6. Tom Cruise would be a priest.
To be honest, he already kinda is. But for a more… Alternative church. Well, before he turned to Scientology, the handsome and excellent actor was a super devout Catholic, especially during high school, when he was very active in church life too.
7. George Clooney would’ve been a baseball player
And it was his dream since he was a boy. One time he even tried playing for the Cincinnati Reds. However, that didn’t last long, because as he says, he was very good at catching the ball but terrible at throwing it. So, acting it was. And boy, what an actor he’s become!

8. Taylor Swift would’ve been a designer or a detective
The famous singer has a lot of dreams. But, while one of them became true, the other two remained a fantasy. Namely, TayTay once said that she would love being a detective, “…[B]ut I don’t think I’d be a very good detective,” she quickly followed up. The reason being that most of what she knew about the job was based on crime shows like Criminal Minds and Law & Order.
9. “Weird Al” Yankovic even had another career lined up
If Weird Al hadn’t ended up coming up with funny songs or pop hit parodies, he would’ve ended up being an architect. In fact, he even got his degree, but there’s a twist – he got that degree with the intention of becoming a cartoonist, because he was good at drawing. Good thing he still used his creative side for something else, like for example, entertaining us!

10. Justin Bieber would be an astronaut
And a huge amount of people would be very happy to stuff him into a rocked and send him interstellar. And had Justin actually fulfilled his original dream – a lot of those people would’ve found it much easier to fulfill theirs too. In a 2012 interview, he talked about his astronaut dreams, which he was still interested in – apparently, he was considering taking a flight on the Virgin Galactic spaceship, but concluded that $200,000 was simply too much to pay for it.
