These Were The 15 Hottest It-Girl Haircuts Of 2017

Before turning the page to 2018 let’s reflect on the most amazing haircuts in 2017 that were influenced by celebrities. Here are fifteen of them, courtesy of Popsugar.

1. Boxed Bob inspired by Kerry Washington

The lead hairstylist at NYC’s Blackstone’s, Justin Gesler, describes it: “This is a one-length bob that sits above the shoulders and features a square bang,”  He continued “This look should ideally be styled straight. It can also be styled with a soft wave that sits close to the head.”

“This cut works well for oval and heart-shaped faces,” said Gesler. “It’s also good for those with all hair types that are comfortable with styling to keep it sleek.”

2. Long with angled bangs inspired by Reese Witherspoon

This amazing long haircut is focused on side-swept bangs. “It’s minimally layered chest-length hair with focus on a disconnected but angled bangs, so that it seamlessly blends into the rest of the hair,” said the stylist.

“Blow-dry smooth with a large, natural boar-bristled brush having sprayed a volumizer throughout,” advises the celebrity stylist Juan Carlos Maciques. “Quickly wrap a large barrel curling iron from below the ear down, but not through to the ends, to create a minimal bend in the hair. Take sections of hair, without perfect thought as to size, and alternate directions as you work your way around the head. You want it looking loose and relatively carefree.”

“This cut is perfect for heart-shaped faces to narrow the width at top and for camouflaging any facial asymmetry depending which side you part the hair toward,” said Maciques. “It’s also great for wavy hair.”

3. Razored Rapunzel inspired by Kim Kardashian

“This is sort of like a “modern-day Cher,” noted Maciques. “It’s long, below the waist, with razored, thinned ends, but it’s not blunt. With a cut this long, it requires some softness on the bottom so it has movement and balances the heaviness of the length.”

“Add some mousse for hold and texture, and loosely braid your hair into four sections,” advised Maciques. Divide from ear to ear, across the crown of your hair and from center front to back. Braid two sections from the front of the ear down and the next two from behind the ear down. Let dry and release.”

This cut is perfect for all round or heart-shaped faced-individuals as well as for square jawlines.

4. Blended Lob with a bang inspired by Alexa Chung

“It’s cut at shoulder-length with long layers and with bangs falling just below the brow from outer corner to outer corner of the eyes,” explained Maciques. “In order to give texture, apply a salt spray and blow-dry smooth. The spray also automatically gives the hair separation,” advised Maciques. “Apply a large barrel iron and literally bump the hair around the midshaft area to create bends throughout. It’s about effortless, not overworked, hair.”

“This look is ideal for long face shapes and for prominent facial features since it camouflages and shortens,” said Maciques.

5. Rock Star Pixie inspired by Janelle Monáe

This is sort of a  modern-day version of Mia Farrow’s classic pixie, but updated and fresher version. “It’s kept soft by not blunting the perimeter of the hairline around the head, and the layers are slightly longer on top,” noted Maciques. “This haircut should always be kept smooth, whether straight or with slight body and movement,” said Maciques. He also explained: “This cut also exposes you completely, so it’s best suited for oval and symmetrically shaped faces with proportionate features, as well as the confidence of a rock star.”

6. Textured Midi Bob inspired by Kendall Jenner

“This is a midlength or midi bob, that is slightly texturized at the ends and cut so the hair falls at just about the top of the shoulders,” said celebrity stylist Laurie Heaps. “You can see this texture stand out a bit more when looking at recent paparazzi photos of her hair straightened and flipped out at the ends.”

“The large, loose waves give this cut body and soft movement,” said Heaps. “Make sure to curl the hair away from the face, focusing on the ends for maximum volume in all the right places.”Shoulder-length hair is actually one of the few universal hairstyles that looks great on any face shape — it’s truly flattering,” said Heaps. One bit of advice, though: make sure your stylist considers the length of your neck when choosing the perfect length. The shorter your neck, the shorter your cut should be,” Heaps noted.

7. The Modern Shag inspired by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Redken ambassador and Cutler salon owner, Rodney Cutler explained: “The key to getting a shag cut that looks cool and modern is to keep the layers longer in proportion to the length (otherwise it looks dated)”

He continued: “If you have thick hair, ask for lots of layers so to take out some of the weight. If you have fine, straight hair, make sure the layers are a bit choppy and not too seamless in order to achieve the desired texture. The new and improved shag cuts look best styled a bit more polished,” he added. “Hair should be smooth and healthy looking; however, avoid blow-drying with a round brush — you’ll end up looking more soccer mom than supermodel.

8. Layered curly cut  inspired by Yara Shahidi

This is the best choice for women with naturally curly hair, according to Spoke & Weal founder, Jon Reyman.

“Ask your hairdresser for layers. Depending on your texture, ask your hairdresser to cut so that the curliest version of your cut will shrink up to your shoulders. The hair is about the texture, and not as much about the cut. Wear your hair frizzy, curly, and natural.” explained Reyman

“Take advantage of doing nothing for once in your life,” he joked. “Embrace what happens. Finish your look with cool makeup or an oversized sweater. Make sure to relish in how easy this is.”

9. Micro Afro inspired by Lupita Nyong’o

According to Matrix celebrity stylist, Nick Stenson: “This cut is for the woman who wants to look on trend but maintain her natural curl. It’s a short crop on highly textured hair to show off the face features.”

“Apply Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Replenish Oil Mist to hair overnight as a treatment and wash out in the morning to keep it soft and manageable,” he advised.

10. Textured 1930s-Inspired Bob inspired by Miranda Kerr

“This cut is best suited for wavy to straight hair textures,” explained the Butterfly Studio Salon senior stylist, Vanessa Fernandez. “It’s a sweet yet sexy look approximately hitting at chin length (more or less) with added layers.”

“At the salon, ask for subtle graduation and to keep the cut slightly A-line, meaning shorter in the back to front,” said Fernandez. “Adding 90-degree layers will give you the movement you want. Ask for a wavy blow-dry and curling iron set to get this look.”

“At home, style with a blow dryer and small brush, create bounce, and use a one-inch iron to lock in the waves,” she advised.  “Keep in mind all should be styled away from the base. Brush out and spray.”

11. Medium-Length and Angled Bob inspired by Olivia Munn

“This is such a cute, sexy look,” says Michelle Forst Vincent, the assistant director at George the Salon Chicago. She said that the cut is angled ever-so-slightly forward, which is how it “looks nice and lean on the edges.”

“This is a great look for anyone that wants to keep some length and still be able to pull it back,” notes Vincent. Also, she recommends it for people with round cheeks and high cheekbones.

12. Long With Subtle Layers from Margot Robbie

To re-create Margot’s beach waves, Maciques says to “apply a salt spray to damp hair, section by section, as you blow-dry the hair with a round, natural bristle brush. The spray itself expands the cuticle and has some tackiness to it, which automatically gives texture.”

“I recommend this look for round faces with thicker hair since it elongates and narrows out the face shape,” advises Maciques.

13. The Buzz inspired by Millie Bobby Brown

The West Hollywood salon Helmet owner  Maria Prendergast said: “Though not for everybody, this look feels really fresh. When Millie wore this cut in Stranger Things, it felt really cool. Most people will go for a tamer version — think Michelle Williams — that’s longer at the top and at the crown. It’s more of a pixie cut.”

“You’re going to get it cut once a month to every six weeks with this look,” Prendergast advised. “It’s a cut with more maintenance because it’s going to grow. But it also looks very cute when it grows out and can easily turn the corner into a pixie cut.”

14. Bardot Bangs inspired by Ciara

Prendergast delves into this trend: ” It’s the perfect light layer around the face and a great way for people who have done the long bob and want to transition into bangs that are light and wispy.

“Plan on this look being more maintenance depending on how much you want to keep them the same length. A wispier, softer bang will be less maintenance because it looks great parted in the middle or centered” she added.

15. The Long and sleek cut inspired by Bella Hadid

The stylist, Marissa Perrault of The Hive L.A. said: “This is a cut for someone that comes in and has long hair already. It is dramatically long, hitting the mid back. It’s the “the difference between hippie hair that’s been forgotten and hippie hair that is polished,” she added. Simply, blow out with a paddle brush and apply oil in order to rock this cut.
