The liver is one of the most important organs in our bodies. However, it’s easy to take this organ for granted. Its function is to soak up the toxins you’ve recklessly introduced into your bloodstream. When you are drinking way too much you are basically forcing your liver to work overtime.

Drinking too much can cause your liver to clog up and that will damage your health. So here are few signs your liver is telling you to slow down, compiled by Aunty Acid.

1. Chronic fatigue

1

One of the first symptoms of liver toxicity is chronic fatigue. If you are feeling fatigued for at least 6 months it might be connected with your liver. This chronic fatigue syndrome resembles a prolonged flu but it’s not as scary as it sounds. The liver has the ability to heal itself if you take a break from sugar and alcohol. It’s all about healthy habits like implementing vegetables and fruits in your diets and doing a cleanse with things like green tea, turmeric or lemon water.

2. Yellow skin and yellow eyes

2
Jaundice is a term used to describes yellowing of the skin and eyes. If you notice that your eyes or skin are turning yellow it’s because the liver makes your system build up a yellow pigment. Bilirubin is an orange-yellow pigment that is created when some of your red blood cells break down in the liver.

3. Allergies

3

Allergies appear when your liver is working overtime. If your brain doesn’t recognize what’s entering your bloodstream, it will recognize it as an allergen. So naturally, it will release antibodies and chemicals to fight them which in turn will cause a rash. So the overload of chemicals will leave the liver exhausted.

4. You’re gaining weight

4

If you are not losing weight even though you are working out every day, you might want to blame the liver. The improper work of the liver, instead of flashing the toxins coming into your body, it will store them in fat cells.

5. Leg and ankle swelling

5

The liver will always try to repair itself, which will cause scar tissue, which eventually leads to portal hypertension. Which means the scar tissue will block the flow of blood through the liver and it will slow its processing functions. Portal hypertension will cause fluid to accumulate in the legs and gravity won’t help either.

6. Pain in your liver area

6

When the liver is affected by condition like hepatitis or alcohol abuse, it can’t function normally. So it will swell which will cause pain in your upper right abdomen.
