Angelina Jolie shined on the red carpet at the Hollywood Film Awards which took place at The Beverly Hilton on Sunday night. Jolie was one of the night’s honorees for her Cambodian labor of love, First They Killed My Father.
A mother of 6, Angelina channeled the old Hollywood style – a glamorous silver gown by Jenny Packham, which cinched in her waist and fell down to the floor in drapes. Her brunette hair fell in waves, complimented by her classic red lipstick and black mascara. The Beauty completed her look with a stunning diamond necklace, FashionStyleMag reports.
“When the Khmer Rouge took over the country, they killed and tortured artists. The vast majority of them were slaughtered for their voices,” the actress said in her acceptance speech.
“To be a Cambodian artist has not been easy. For all the regime did to destroy art and artists in Cambodia, they failed. This is for everyone back home in Cambodia, this is for them, they made this film.”
Angelina directed and co-wrote the film, which is billed as a historiographical drama and a documentary. The full title is First They Killed My Father: A Girl of Cambodia Remembers, and it premiered on September 15 of this year. The movie recounts the story of Loung Ung, a Cambodian author and human rights activist, and the horrors she suffered as a child under the deadly regime of the Khmer Rouge.
The movie also garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews, with even the super-critics at Roger Ebert giving it the top 4/4 score. All props go to Angelina of course – and her award is truly deserved! I for one, can’t wait to see it.
