Can you believe it’s almost been ten years since Anna Nicole Smith died? She may no longer be with us, but her story still continues to fascinate people. She had all the jazz of rags-t0-riches, a husband 60 years older than her, beauty, tragedy, obsessed media… She was a reality star before it became a thing. But unlike today’s reality stars, she was also a model and an actress.
She died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, so the custody of her daughter Dannielyinn went to her partner Lary Birkhead, who decided to retire from the spotlight, so the girl could have a normal childhood.
They make an appearance every year at the Kentucky Derby, where Larry and Anna Nicole met. And this year, everyone got to see how much Anna’s daughter looks like her.
We know most of the details about Anna Nicole’s life: she was born in Texas, had a son when she was 20, and began her career as an exotic dancer in one of Houston’s upscale nightclubs. She was also modelling on the side, and at the age of 24 she scored her first big photoshoot with Playboy magazine, where she posed wearing a low-cut red dress in their March 1992 issue.
The photoshoot caught the attention of Guess? Jeans designer Paul Marciano, and soon after that, he signed her as a model for the fashion company. The press called her the next Marilyn Monroe, which Anna Nicole embraced by wearing tousled curls and bright red lipstick for the campaign.
She was cast in a few movies and her modelling career took off. She played Za-Za in the Coen brothers’ The Hudsucker Proxy, then scored a much larger role in Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult alongside Priscilla Presley and Leslie Nielsen.
She had a high profile marriage to the oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall II, for the reason that he was 89 years when they married. He died a year later, and left Anna in a legal battle with his stepson.
