No matter how amazing a script is, or the director, or the locations and sets, one might argue that the most important part of a movie or a TV show is the cast. If the casting is not good then it’s all worthless. But finding the right actor for the right role is not an easy task.
Here are some actors that just weren’t right for the part. Actually, in these sixteen instances, the casting director got it so wrong, it was cringeworthy.
1. George Clooney as Batman
Fans were bummed with almost every aspect of the 1997 movie Batman & Robin, but nothing came close to how mismatched George Clooney was with the character he was supposed to be portraying.
2. Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One
Even though Doctor Strange purists were confused by the casting of Tilda, it was nothing personal; they just saw this decision as casting directors trying to stray from the source material.
3. Rosie O’Donnell as Betty Rubble
Almost everyone grew up loving The Flinstones so when producers cast Rosie O’Donnell as Ms. Rubble, it was considered one of the ultimate mismatches.

4. John Wayne as Genghis Khan
Was really John Wayne the first person who came to the casting director’s mind when they saw the name “Genghis Khan” in the script? No way, old Hollywood!

5. Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern
The problem is really not Ryan, but the bland material and the poor special effects. He is not the one to blame for this one.

6. Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau
Even though Steve Martin is an icon in his own right, the fans were not satisfied with his attempt to fill the shoes of the legendary Peter Sellers.

7. Halle Berry as Catwoman
There was a lot of discussion about Catwoman and while some believe someone more suitable for the role should have been hired, others think the total failure of the 2004 movie was mainly down to the script.

8. Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates
Vaughn does have the ability to look creepy but his dominant humorous side made the portrayal of Norman Bates in the remake of Psycho quite suspect.
9. Gary Oldman as Rolfe
If Oldman’s performance in Tiptoes, where he plays a little man, doesn’t make you cringe, I don’t know what will.

10. Ben Affleck as Daredevil
Yes, he definitely is one of the most successful men in Hollywood but he is not for the “superhero essence” on screen. Sorry!

11. Scarlett Johansson as Rebecca
Before the movie came out, fans were not happy when they learned that Scarlett is going to play the role, with some preferring a lesser-known actor eager to prove themselves.

12. Sean Penn as Sam
Everything was on point in this movie, except for Sean Penn playing a developmentally disabled character.

13. Seth MacFarlane as Ted
While funny as hell, many viewers just couldn’t picture anything but a Peter & Brian Griffin mashup while listening to Ted’s voice.
14. Kevin Costner as Robin Hood
Some people loved him in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, while others thought it was a little weird since he didn’t have an English accent.

15. Sofia Coppola as Mary Corleone
Sofia’s father Francis Ford Coppola directed the first two Godfather movies and gave his daughter a leading role when he decided to make a third installment.
While Sofia did appear as a little girl in the first two films which are considered one of the best of all time, her acting skills were panned when The Godfather: Part III came out, negatively affecting the movie’s reception.
