Breaking up is always difficult. But if you’re a celebrity whose life is constantly the subject of scrutiny by the public, the added pressure of being in the spotlight every waking moment of your life must put extra strain on your relationships, leading to some pretty nasty breakups. And then there is the fallout and the humiliation of everyone knowing about your failed relationship to deal with. Followed, of course, by the revenge. And when you’re a super rich and super famous, revenge is a dish best served cold and brutal.
The stories of how celebs trolled their exes are always amusing. That is not to say that they are in very good taste, but they are pretty funny. Some of them opt for the more traditional blasting-your-ex-in-interviews path, others apply their incredible creativity for some epic trolling. Whichever way they chose, perhaps there are some tips we could learn from their experiences.
Here are 12 celebrities who exacted revenge on their exes, courtesy of Ranker.
1. Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Andre Rison
Girl group TLC’s member, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was in a relationship with football player Andre Rison for six years back in the ’90s. After it was over, she revealed that the relationship was always a turbulent one and that Rison had abused her both emotionally and physically. Apparently, after he beat her up after a night out, the singer set fire to his shoes in the bathtub. But the fire spread, and the whole house burned down. She got five years probation and therapy at a halfway house. After the incident, the couple stayed together for five more years. Lisa died in 2002 in a car accident at the age of 30.
2. Alanis Morissette and Dave Coulier
Alanis Morissette wrote a song about her ex, as her iconic hit You Oughta Know is apparently about Full House actor Dave Coulier. The Canadian-American singer has never confirmed this, and Coulier has both admitted and denied being the inspiration behind the song. In an interview with the Boston Herald back in 1997, the actor “admitted the lines are very close to home. Especially the one about ‘an older version of me’ and bugging him [Coulier] ‘in the middle of dinner.'”
3. Satsuki Mitchell and Daniel Craig
James Bond actor Daniel Craig and producer Satsuki Mitchell were in a relationship from 2005 to 2010. After the breakup, the rumor mill claimed that the reason lay in British actress Rachel Weisz (who is now Craig’s wife). But hell hath no fury like a woman scorned they say, and Mitchell got her sweet revenge. Being an authorized user on Craig’s credit cards, the American went on a shopping spree and spent a whopping $1 million!
4. Amber Rose and Kanye West
Amber Rose and Kanye West dated from 2009 to 2010, and they still have the occasional spat even years after the breakup. The fact that the two of them are nowhere near getting along nicely can be best demonstrated by a Twitter exchange they had in 2016. The rapper had dissed Rose’s then-husband Wiz Khalifa, and in retaliation the model tweeted: “Awww @kanyewest are u mad I’m not around to play in ur a–hole anymore? #FingersInTheBootyAssBitch.” Kanye responded in a very eloquent manner: “That bitch never stuck no fingers in my ass.” Classy!
5. Brandi Glanville and Eddie Cibrian
TV personality Brandi Glanville was married to actor Eddie Cibrian from 2001-2010. But he left her for singer LeAnn Rimes, and no-one seems to have moved on. Then came this years Halloween and a certain party themed celebrity scandal party. Glanville went dressed as Rimes, and her boyfriend as Cibrian.
6. Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris
Taylor Swift is known for using all of her relationships as inspiration for her songs. She was with British record producer and DJ Calvin Harris from March 2015 to June 2016. All of the romances the American singer’s had over the years are well documented in the tabloids, and this one was no exception. After the relationship ended, Swift revealed that she had written the song This Is What You Came For, a collaboration between Harris and Rihanna featured on his latest album.
7. Deryck Whibly and Avril Lavigne
Canadian singer Avril Lavigne was married for four years to Sum 41 lead vocalist Deryck Whibley. It seemed they ended things and remained on friendly terms. But all is not well apparently, as in 2012, Whibley went to a Halloween party dressed as Lavigne, and his then-girlfriend dressed up as Lavigne’s new man, Chad Kroeger, the lead singer of the rock band Nickelback. Kroeger’s response was epic: “Hey Deryck, loved the costumes! We were going to dress up as you guys this year but all the parties had celebrity themes haha.” Burn!
8. Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian
Khloe Kardashian and NBA star Lamar Odom got married in 2009. It wasn’t quite smooth sailing, and the couple called it quits in 2015. The same year, the basketball player slipped into a coma, and Kardashian was right there beside him, despite filing a request for divorce a few months earlier. Odom recovered, and the separation was made final in 2016. And now it seems that he is writing a tell-all book! Rumor is that the reality TV star, as well as her family, are very concerned about what he might reveal. Meanwhile, the fans can’t wait to get their hands on that book!
9. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, aka Bella and Edward from the Twilight saga, were in a relationship in real life as well. But then she cheated on him with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, and the couple split in 2012, breaking many a fan’s heart. The British actor has never really spoken publicly about the drama, but in an interview from 2012, he did make what could be considered either a general observation or a veiled diss. He said, “But there’s a thing I’ve never got: That is, why do people cheat? I can understand the impulse, but not how you can keep two relationships going at the same time for long.”
10. Caitlyn Jenner and Kris Jenner
The Kardashian/Jenner family never fails to supply the daily dose of drama. This time it was Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner, who dissed ex-wife Kris Jenner in her book The Secrets of My Life. Caitlyn called Kris controlling, a liar, and a cutthroat, and blamed her for caring more about her career than about her family. She even blamed her for their relationship with O.J. Simpson and Nicole Brown. All of these insights were more of a cry for attention by Caitlyn than actual revelations: not many people, if any, were surprised by them.
11. Britt Ekland and Rod Stewart
British rock star Rod Stewart dated model Britt Ekland back in the ’70s. The couple lived together for two years before breaking up. After it was over, Ekland revealed some of the problems that had precipitated the end of the relationship, one of which was the fact that Stewart was a right old miser. “He was so mean it hurt him to go to the bathroom,” she said.
12. Tyga and Kylie Jenner
And here we go again, yet another breakup drama brought to you by the Kardashian/Jenner family. This time it was the younger generation. Kylie Jenner dated rapper Tyga for two years. Being a part of one of the most successful reality TV shows ever, every moment of Kylie’s relationship (and the breakup) was very well documented by the press and on social media. Tyga did a radio interview after the romance was over, and he didn’t hide what he really thought. He said, “Being in a very public relationship like that, it’s hard for other people to see you differently. It overshadowed a lot of my talents and a lot of things I worked hard for.”
