When my friends dragged me to see Step Up in the theater, I knew that Channing Tatum was going to be the next big thing in Hollywood. He continued to make other successful movies and there was nothing that could stop him. Here are some things you should know about the famous Hollywood hunk.
Magic Mike was based on his own experience as a stripper. He needed money so bad that he stripped for 8 months straight. Even though he has a hot body, he didn’t end up making that much at the time.
“On a good night, I would make $150. Not as much as you think. On a bad night, $70 – even $50 at times.”
His stage name was Chan Crawford. Mmmm it sounds pretty mysterious.
Even though the 36-year-old showed off his dance moves pretty well in Step Up, he can do a lot more than that. His parents made him play tons of sports growing up, like baseball, track, and field, soccer and football! He’s an athletic guy.
His first job in Hollywood was as a dancer in Ricky Martin’s music video for “She Bangs.” He earned only $400 for it and oh, he was shirtless.
At first, Channing felt very intimidated by the professional dancers and didn’t want to be a part of Step Up.
On the set of The Eagle, he and cast members would pour hot water down their pants to keep warm. And one time, a crew member forgot to dilute the water and Channing burned his crotch. Ouch!
He was very lucky to meet his future wife on the set of Step Up. He and Jenna Dewan began dating after the filming ended.
Jenna was weirded out when she saw Channing’s performance in This Is The End, so much so that she couldn’t watch him film his scene and left the set.
He is now so confident with his dancing skills that if he gets into a disagreement with anyone, he likes to suggest a dance off before a fight.
Channing never took any acting lessons until he got the lead role in Dear John to give a better performance.
He spent most of his childhood in Mississipi and was the exterminator for his family. One time he even had to catch an alligator because it had gotten too big.
The famous actor used to wait for his dad to sleep and then sneak out to parties.
He lost his wedding ring one time on set and Jenna wasn’t very happy about it. He wore a string around his finger until he got a replacement one.
He admitted to GQ that he had an imaginary friend named Boy. “I would make a plate for him and all that. Crazy behavior. I think I just lived in an imaginary world.”
It cost Channing and the director, Steven Soderbergh $6.5 million to finance the Magic Mike movie.
Channing gets so into his roles. In Foxcatcher he was supposed to hit his head against the mirror with a protective plastic sheath, but he hit it too hard and completely shattered it. Yes, the blood in that scene is all his.
