Got your keys on you?
With its how-to craft videos, science experiments and other cool projects, Dave Hax is the YouTube channel to terminate all other YouTube channels.
The channel dates back from 2012 and has more than 2 million subscribers. They are all looking to hack life, solve the things that get our brains into knots and uncomplicate the trickier tasks in life.
The thing that complicates my life the most are my keys.
I have a lot of different keys, now tied on a large keychain, after countless times of trial and error.
I used to lose my keys a lot. I used to close my keys inside my home or my car. I have spent hundreds of dollars on towing services….Because I didn’t have the spare key with me. Or I had already lost it. But who has one anyways? It is nowhere to be found when you need it!
In one of his videos, Dave Hax explores the idea of making a spare key of all the things you can find sitting around in your home.
- A key
- Can lid
Start by holding the key you want to make a copy of above over a flame. Hold it with a pair of pliers to protect your fingers!
Once it is blackened, place it down somewhere safe to cool.
Next, take a strip of tape and stick it onto the key as shown below, in order to take a print.
Carefully peel it off, and you should have an exact copy of the key.
Take a lid of a can and stick your tape with the imprint onto the lid. Then, using sharp scissors, carefully cut out the key. Make sure you don’t cut yourself, so be very careful. Plus, you want to be precise. Take your time!
When you are done, it should look like this:
The key you’ve created is quite thinner than the original one, so be very careful, you don’t want to bend it or snap it!
Try it out and see it for yourself! It works like a charm!
