This Woman Re-Created Famous Fashion Ads And Made A Powerful Statement About Diversity

fashion

Deddeh Howard is a lifestyle, fashion, fitness and travel influencer who was born and raised in  Liberia, West Africa. She is passionate about passion, medicine and helping people and is currently getting her bachelor’s degree in Health Science.

Deddeh has a blog, Secret of DD, where she writes about lifestyle, travel, fitness and so on. Not long ago she created a project called Black Mirror, where she recreated popular model’s photos for commercials, hoping that it will help bring awareness back to the positive side of black people. The ask the question why big fashion companies don’t have black models on their commercials and it went viral pretty fast.

“We are bombarded every day with flashy advertisement, billboards and television ads that try to inspire us to buy the products that are hitting the market. Something that always bothered me when you see these amazing images that very rarely you ever see a black woman on them. When growing up as a girl I always wondered, why the big brands such as Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Guess and many others rarely seem to use a black model? And if they do, a very small group of black models does make the cut here and there, but that group seems to remain pretty much identical over a long period of time.” The blogger wrote on her page.

“Black girls are almost invisible,” she wrote.

She encouraged all black women to be proud of who they are.

“A black woman should be allowed to do whatever with her hair or body as she pleases just like all other women out there. It’s time we get past this!” the fashion influencer captioned one of her Instagram photos.

Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. #blackmirrorproject @secretofdd
