Director JJ Abrams says:
“What we were looking for was someone new, and this character needed to be vulnerable and tough and sweet and terrified and to find someone no one knew, who could do all these things, took a lot of looking. We were very lucky to find some great people but the truth is, it wasn’t until we found Daisy we felt like she was capable of doing all those things the character required. When we brought her in, we asked her to do this scene, this torture scene and she just blew my mind. She’s reaching this depth of struggle and tears are streaming down her face. I thought, ‘This is unbelievable’. I asked her to stop and gave her a few adjustments to make and she just did it again and I thought, ‘Oh my God’.”
Since it was released on December 15, The Last Jedi has received great criticism. One fan was so angry after watching it that he decided to set up a petition on Change.org calling on Disney ‘to strike Star Wars Episode VIII from the official canon’ so the events of the film never happen in the saga. In this case, it would just be a standalone film not meddling into the rest of the series.
In case you haven’t seen the movie yet, here is the trailer:
On the petition site, the angry fan Walsh wrote:
“Star Wars has long been a story about two things – the Jedi and Luke Skywalker. After over 260 novels where we could follow the adventures of that great hero you, the Walt Disney Company decided to strike all of that from the official canon and wiped out three decades of lore. We were excited to see Episode VII to see how our heroes’ lives turned out since you took away what we knew. We saw the death of Han Solo, we saw less than a minute of Luke Skywalker. Episode VIII was a travesty.”
His words go on: “It completely destroyed the legacy of Luke Skywalker and the Jedi. It destroyed the very reasons most of us, as fans, liked Star Wars. This can be fixed.”
He went on:
“Just as you wiped out 30 years of stories, we ask you to wipe out one more, The Last Jedi. Remove it from canon, push back Episode IX and re-make Episode VIII properly, to redeem Luke Skywalker’s legacy, integrity, and character. We stuck by you when you did things that hurt us before, so we ask you now, please don’t let this film stand. Don’t do this to us. Don’t take something so many of us loved so much and destroy it like this. Let us keep our heroes. Mark Hamill had two roles in The Last Jedi, didn’t you know.”
He is indeed passionate about the movie. What do you think will happen next?
