In 2014 we saw an emotional Youtube video of a soldier returning home to his family in Des Moines. The Love What Matter Facebook Page released it recently and it now has more than 700,000 views. Social media is once again melting the hearts of people from all around the world.
Being a soldier is not an easy job, especially when you have to leave your family behind. John Vorrath is a National Guard Sergeant who desperately wanted to come back to his family. His wife Janae was pregnant and nearing her delivery date. She went to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames to give birth to her second child, a daughter. Although John knew this was so important, he couldn’t come, but he watched it on FaceTime. Then, he got permission to travel and surprise his family and he couldn’t be happier.
John got on a plane to start the 22-hour journey to get home to his family. The moment he landed, he started recording himself to surprise his wife and the other members of his family. His 1-day-old daughter was also waiting to meet her dad. Vorrath was really excited to meet her, too.
Here is the whole video:
He entered the hospital ward. He hugged his wife warmly and held their daughter in his arms for the first time. “Oh my God. Look at her,” Vorrath said when he first held her. The whole family burst into tears because of the emotional moment.
After 15 minutes, another surprise came. John’s 2-year-old son came into the room. The boy hadn’t seen his father since they deployed him. “You’re so big,” Vorrath said when his son ran to hug him, after recognizing that he is his father. They kissed each other as they reunited.
This family is not the only one to be in this situation. There are a lot of videos capturing reunions such as theirs, which you can see from the video above.
