Mehmet Ilhan and Cesur the dog were always best friends, and then the owner came down with an illness that left him paralyzed.
The one who was there by Mehmet’s side every day was his best friend and loving dog. When he went to the hospital, his friend Cesur, took it pretty hard. Speaking with The Dodo, Mehmet’s son Ali said:
“Because of my father’s paralysis, they had a different kind of connection.
“When my father was in the hospital during his last days, Cesur stopped eating.”
Last week, unfortunately, the 79-year-old passed away at a hospital near his home in Bursa, Turkey, leaving the dog in the hands of his son. After the body was brought back into his home, Cesur refused to leave his side. He led the way on the day of the funeral where they took Mehmet’s casket to his final resting place.
“Nobody could touch him until my father was taken to the grave and was buried,” Ali added.
When the funeral was over, Ali took the dog home with him and days after that the dog started taking long walks on his own. Ali got so curious to know where the dog was going. He desperately wanted to know so one day he followed him only to find out that the dog led him to his father’s grave.
The groundskeeper told Ali that he sits and spends time paying dues to his old best friend every morning. Ali was left in tears and started taking daily walks with the dog to visit his father’s grave too.
“Cesur has always been a noble animal,” he said. “He will live with me from now on.”
