The 2017 Billboard Music Awards have been synonymous with rapper Drake. On Sunday, the Toronto-born swept this year’s awards taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, winning an unprecedented thirteen awards. This broke the previous record held by Adele who had won 12.
Among others, the 30-year-old triumphed in the Best Artist, Top Male Artist and Top Streaming Artist categories (his 2016 hit, One Dance, has so far received more than one billion plays on Spotify).
As the limelight was firmly on Aubrey Drake Graham on Sunday night, there was one person in the audience that seemingly craved his attention more than anyone. From the second the Canadian took the stage to accept his Top Billboard 200 Album award for Views award, Nicki Minaj was, both literally and metaphorically, on the edge of her seat – and the cameras were ready to capture it all!
After Drake complimented host Vanessa Hudgens, saying she looked incredible, the camera immediately panned to Nicki, who was caught shouting, “Oh, excuse me? What about me?”
And the undisputed champion of the evening did not disappoint his Trinidadian colleague. As a true gentleman, Drake followed up his acceptance speech with a special mention for Nicki, saying, “Nicki Minaj, I’m so glad we found our way back, ’cause I love you and I could never see it any other way.”
Spoken like a Sir, Mr. Graham!
