Cyclists’ life isn’t easy, especially when they ride their bikes alongside angry drivers. And yes, drivers have their angry moments, and they can be rude as well. An incident in London shows a female cyclist getting revenge after a driver verbally abused her. Karma instantly hits back the diver, who didn’t expect for the girl to fight back and eventually pull off the vehicle’s wing mirror.
The incident was filmed by an unnamed motorcyclist on a dashcam, and the video shows how the man in a silver transit van harasses the woman verbally. The woman is filmed standing next to the van with her bicycle on Goodge Street, waiting to cross over Tottenham Court Road in central London.
The man next to her shouts “Alright? Want my number?”
She tells him off.
“Woah, woah, don’t be like that!”
She shouts, “Go away!”
Then the van driver sticks his torso out of the woman and lurches toward the young woman.
“Woah! That’s not very lady-like is it, ay? Oi, what charm school did you go to, ay?”
At first, the young woman tries to ignore the bully in the van. But then he takes things too far.
“You wanna tell your mum and dad to get their f***ing money back.”
He then tries to belittle her.
“You on your period? Listen don’t be like that, come on…Give me your number! We’ll go for a drink.”
Finally, the light changes. The van speeds off, but the lady goes after it. Then, the van comes to a halt. The girl rides up to him, then stops her bicycle, and reaches over and pulls off the vehicle’s wing mirror. The man on the scooter with the GoPro camera is impressed. As he drives past the shocked men getting out of the van, he says: “That’s exactly what you deserve, you scum.”
The video has been viewed more than 1 million times. Here is what people had to say about it.
One commenter said: “I love it. Men do not have the right to harass anyone. As for the idiot that said women should dress like a slob, he needs to grow up and get into the 21st century. Men should control their mouths and hands, in other words, keep his hands to himself and keep his mouth shut!!!!!!!!”
Another one added: “I used to get harassed all the time when I was out on my bike, so, I started carrying an extra large bottle of water. After drenching several guys who thought it was funny to try to touch me, and having it work well, I switched to an air horn. Deafening them worked much better.”
Further details of the incident are unclear. Reddit users have also called the video fake, with one user pointing to the fact that it is already licenced. Paul Beiboer, who co-founded Jungle Creations, which is licencing the video, told the Evening Standard that his company didn’t create the video.
“We couldn’t verify its authenticity, but we don’t think it’s fake,” he said.
