Canadian actress Elisha Cuthbert has captured many hearts among the people sitting in front of their television screens. The Calgary-born made a name for herself by playing Kim Bauer on Fox’s series 24, but she is perhaps best remembered for the 2004 teen comedy The Girl Next Door.

The Girl Next Door – along with Cuthbert’s other Hollywood film credit in The House of Wax – didn’t do well critically, although they did make money. In contrast to the disappointments on the big screen, the 34-year-old was recognized as “TV’s most beautiful woman” by Maxim magazine in 2013.

Elisha Cuthbert began her acting career when she was 14, when she appeared in Nickelodeon‘s teen horror-mystery series Are You Afraid Of The Dark.

Her character, Megan, soon became a regular, and she stayed on the show for four years. Afterwards, she bagged parts in small-time catchily-named films such as Dancing On The Moon and Time At The Top. In 1998, she landed her first lead along Joe Montagna in an air disaster movie named Airspeed.

In 2001, she started appearing in what would become her most recognizable role – to American audiences at least -special agent Jack Bauer’s troublesome daughter Kim in 24.

Success and popularity ensued, and after just three seasons, Cuthbert left the series to focus on her movie career. In hindsight, it doesn’t seem like the wisest choice, as most projects she’s been involved in have been average at best.

The Girl Next Door was released in 2004 to mixed reviews. A story about a retired pornstar, it has been compared to Risky Business and Pretty Woman but it failed to emulate their success. The movie did make a box office profit, though, earning $30.4 million on a $21 million budget.

In 2005 Cuthbert appeared in House of Wax, a remake of a 1953 film which was one of the most successful that year. The remake also starred Paris Hilton but was universally panned by critics, although it grossed $70 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. Cuthbert’s next two projects, The Quiet and Captivity were panned as well, with the latter being dubbed ‘torture porn’ and nominated for three Razzies.

Cuthbert returned to television in the short-lived Happy Endings and NBC’s One Big Happy which was cancelled after only one season.

Most recently Cuthbert starred alongside Ashton Kutcher in Netflix original, The Ranch.

Since 2013, she has been married to Canadian ice hockey player Dion Phaneuf who plays for capital club Ottawa Senators. The couple split their time between Canada and Los Angeles.

In 2015, she had somewhat of a movie renaissance after she appeared alongside Seann William Scott in Goon: Last of the Enforcers, a successful sequel to the 2011 comedy Goon.

Perhaps Cuthbert’s achievements have been judged too harshly. Although she has never hit the dizzy heights some predicted when she first broke through, her career has by no means been a disappointment. The Canadian Business named her one of the most powerful Canadian in Hollywood and The New York Daily News listed her as one of the Sexiest Canadian celebrities of 2016.

No one can argue Elisha Cuthbert is still going steady, if unspectacularly.
