Besides celebrating the best of movies at the Oscars, the Academy also pays respect and tribute to the people that passed while working in the film industry. But sadly this year, things did not go quite as planned!
When the time came to pay tribute to Jan Patterson, an Australian costume designer, the Academy mistakenly used a photo of the wrong person. Oops!
— ABC News (@ABC) February 27, 2017
Jan Chapman, leading Aussie producer was reported to be ‘devastated’ that her image was used instead of Janet Patterson.
“I was devastated by the use of my image in place of my great friend and long-time collaborator Janet Patterson. I had urged her agency to check any photograph which might be used and understand that they were told that the Academy had it covered,” Chapman stated.
“Janet was a great beauty and four-time Oscar nominee and it is very disappointing that the error was not picked up. I am alive and well and an active producer,” she added
The academy also failed to pay tribute to several notable celebrities who passed in 2016, including Garry Shandling.
A few balls were dropped at this year’s Oscars.
