Even though agriculture might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it is still a topic we should all be a little more up to date about. Most people (myself included) just go to the grocery store, grab a head of broccoli and then call it a day. But we never considered how a head of broccoli looked before humans came in contact with it. Fruits and vegetables are actually a very interesting topic.

So, fruits and vegetables have been “domesticated” in a similar way to our pets. Human contact causes nature to change then adapt and modify. The more we interact with something in nature, the more it changes.
The fruits and veggies we consume today didn’t always look the way they look now. Even in the future, the fruits we know currently may change their shape too. For example fruits like bananas, watermelons and veggies like eggplants, carrots changed in looks thanks to centuries of domestication.
In the video below, Business Insider goes into each one of vegetables and the changes they’ve been through since coming into contact with humans.
Genetic modification is also very important for the crops we grow and eat. The health industry advertises for “Non-GMO’s” with extreme they aren’t anything to fear. Without GMO’s we wouldn’t actually be able to eat a vast majority of the fruits and vegetables that we have.
GMO’s allow us to grow crops in areas where they wouldn’t naturally grow which gives us better resources for feeding the world. So, they are nothing to fear and one day in the future we might even become more heavily reliant on them.
The video also shows the importance of GMO’s. Watch the video and learn more how humans contact modified some of the most popular fruits and veggies.
