Recently, George Clooney and his wife Amal welcomed their twin babies to the world. The 39-year-old human rights barrister for Doughty Street Chambers recently gave birth to her and her 56-year-old actor husband’s kids, Ella and Alexander Clooney.
“This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days,” the new parents said in a statement.
A source close to the couple’s family tells PEOPLE, “This is very good news. We’re very, very happy. George is going to be a great father of twins.”
Amal’s boss, Geoffrey Robertson QC of Doughty Street Chambers, also tells PEOPLE he is very happy for the couple: “All I can say is that it’s a great co-production.”
The twice Sexiest Man Alive first opened up about Amal’s pregnancy back in February, telling the Daily Mail that their twins were due in June.
“We are really happy and really excited. It’s going to be an adventure.” he said during an interview with Lauren Weil on the French program, Rencontres de Cinéma
“We’ve sort of embraced it all … with arms wide open.”
These two wed in September 2014, in Venice, where they were surrounded by loved ones. Some of the guests that attended the wedding included Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford and Emily Blunt.
Following the glamorous weekend nuptials, George told PEOPLE that being married “feels pretty damn great.”
After opening up about the pregnancy, the couple stayed fairly quiet, until Amal’s appearance in France in late February, where the baby bump was clearly visible under the dress that she wore.
“It is a great honor for us to be here. It’s the first time we’re in Paris together so it’s a bit of a romantic weekend for us,” she told French reporters at the time.
People reported following the couple’s date night where it was reported that Amal was “looking exclusively at cribs and nursery furniture.”
We’re very happy that Amal and the kids are healthy, and that George finally has the pleasure to become a dad. We hope they’ll grow up to become as beautiful and witty as their parents are.
