The famous American fashion model Gigi Hadid has yet another – photography. In fact that’s the only thing that helped the 21-year-old model to not go insane during the chaos of Fashion Week.
The signed IMG model, added camerawoman to her resume having snapped her singer boyfriend Zayn Malik for Versace’s spring/summer 17 campaign. Proud girlfriend!
Her mother Yolanda Hadid had a big role in Gigi’s love for photography, inspiring her to capture the world and moments around her.
“Creative people always need to be creating, regardless of whether they are working or not. For me, making Polaroids during Fashion Week was literally the only way I wouldn’t go insane,” she admitted. “I could take pictures of my friends and the people who make me happy. One day, I was in the car with (V magazine editor) Stephen Gan, and he asked me what I was doing with the camera and I told him that I was taking pictures of friends at parties. He said I should keep doing it, and we’d meet at the end of the month to see what I have.”
In the interview Gigi, was joined by lensman Mert Alas and Marcus Pigott, his business partner. They have helmed some of the most famous fashion magazine covers. A few of the duo and Gigi’s joint efforts, now include Dsquared2’s spring/summer 17 campaign and the recent cover of Vogue Arabia. How cool is that?
Even though Mert praised Gigi’s modelling skills, he said that she might be his “new competitor”. Who knows?
While discussing first impressions, he said: “I knew she was a hot and upcoming girl, and everyone was telling me I needed to work with her. Then I saw her, and I thought she looked like a supermodel with the personality to match. The good thing about you is you understand what you are wearing and what we’re doing, so you get into it. That’s very rare in our industry, which is why I don’t work with many models.”
The model made sure to return the kind word by saying that Mert and Marcus’ work is the reason that she got into fashion. What do you guys think? Would she make it out there as a photographer?
