This Is The World’s Most Handsome Man According To An Ancient Greek Method

Dr. Julian De Silva, a famous cosmetic surgeon from London’s renowned Harley Street has come up with her own list of the world’s most handsome men based on a test performed through facial mapping technologies. The technology looks at and measures the eyebrows, nose, lips, chin, jaw and facial structure of a man and compares it with the Ancient Greek idea of perfection. Understandably, the list includes the likes of David Beckham, Harry Styles, Bradley Cooper and Brad Pitt; none of them is placed first, though.

Dr. De Silva claims that “These brand-new computer mapping techniques allow us to solve some of the mysteries of what it is that makes someone physically beautiful”. The method uses the so-called ‘Golden Ratio’ – a mathematical equation devised in Ancient Greece to measure a person’s beauty.

The ratio can be applied to anything and was famously used by Leonardo da Vinci for the perfect male body of his remarkable Vitruvian Man and it has now been applied on contemporary celebrities.

The premise behind the theory is that the closer the ratios of a face or body are to the number Phi – 1.618 – the more beautiful they are. Phi or the Golden Ratio, also called the Divine Proportion, was used by famous architects and artists such as Le Corbusier and Salvador Dali who have proportioned their works to approximate it.

The ratio appears in patterns in nature, including the spiral arrangement of leaves and other plant parts. It has been studied by mathematicians since Euclid in the 3rd century BCE and has also been used to analyze the proportions of natural objects as well as man-made systems such as financial markets. By using the ratio on the 12 keys markers on the human face, including the lips, nose, eyes and chin, Dr. Julian De Silva has applied it to handsome celebrities and claims to have established how close these ten beautiful men come to the number Phi.

1. George Clooney 91.86%

2. Bradley Cooper 91.80%

3. Brad Pitt 90.51%

4. Harry Styles 89.63%

5. David Beckham 88.96%

6. Will Smith 88.88%

7. Idris Elba 87.93%

8. Ryan Gosling 87.48%

9. Zayn Malik 86.5%

10. Jamie Foxx 85.46%

Speaking about the discovery, Dr. De Silva, who runs the Centre for Advanced Facial Cosmetic And Plastic Surgery in London, UK, said:

“George Clooney has been feted as the world’s most beautiful man for decades — and it is great that his status has now been proved by science. He has beautiful facial symmetry and gets closer than any other man to having what the Greeks considered the perfect face. George had a near-perfect ratio of nose-to-lip dimension of 99.6 per cent, and his chin and eye spacing were almost perfect as well.”

The 56-year-old actor is considered most handsome as had the highest combined score across 12 key markers
