It seems like it’s never too late to go after your favorite hobby and change your life completely. Seventy-two-year-old Kimiko Nishimoto decided to do something she had never done before, so she took a beginners course in photography. Her eldest son was the teacher and she immediately fell in love with the topic. Nowadays, the 89-year-old grandma is taking humorous and sometimes surreal self-portraits. Here is a selection of her art, compiled by BoredPanda.
She apparently didn’t think a lot about photography before she turned 72. As her son was teaching a beginner’s course, she decided to take part in it. At that time, she was unaware of her photography talents. She instantly fell in love with photography and set about snapping various comical self-portraits. Kimiko’s style is unique in every sense. She had her first solo exhibition ten years later, at a local museum in her hometown of Kumamoto.
Her career didn’t stop there actually. She is about to have her work exhibited at Tokyo’s Epson epsite imaging gallery. The exhibition, which is titled “Asobokane” – meaning “let’s play” people can see new work of the genius photographer. So, if you happen to be in Tokyo between December 15, 2017, and January 18, 2018, be sure to check it out.
