The 2017 line-up

The full line up of the celebrities taking part of the show this year was revealed earlier this week. Former MEP Stanley Johnson, ex-football player Dennis Wise, Leicester City ace Jamie Vardy’s wife Rebekah, famous Youtuber Jack Maynard, Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas, Coronation Street legend Jennie McAlpine, Made in Chelsea‘s Georgia Toffolo, professional boxer Amir Khan, former The Saturdays member Vanessa White, and comedian Shappi Khorsandi are the ten celebs who will be dropped off in the Aussie jungle.

During the course of three weeks, they will have to live off meager rations and overcome the dreaded Bushtucker Trials, which include facing thousands of creepy crawlies in an enclosed space or eating disgusting foods like kangaroo testicles and fish eyes. At the end of that time, the public vote will decide who will be crowned the new King or Queen of the Jungle.

The red socks

In the official photos of the cast, you can notice all the celebrities are wearing red socks. This isn’t just because it’s part of the uniform. The color was specifically chosen for a reason. The I’m a Celeb on-site medic, Bob, revealed in Woman’s Own that the bright red color serves to hide any potential blood stains from the camera. Living in the jungle, the celebrities are exposed to all manner of blood-sucking insects, and the red socks make sure that their wounds are unnoticeable.

A couple more secrets from behind-the-scenes were also revealed. For example, did you know that the rocks around the camp are actually hollow and made from papier-mache? And that for each series of the show 250,000 cockroaches, 153,000 crickets, 2.5 million mealworms, 400 spiders, 500 rats and 30 snakes are bred on average? Poor celebrities! That’s a lot of horrible creatures to handle in the Bushtucker Trials…

Ant and Dec

Britain’s favorite duo has hosted the show since the very beginning, and Ant and Dec are set to reprise their role once more. We all breathed a sigh of relief when it was finally confirmed that both Geordies would be returning to the Aussie jungle. There was a lot of speculation whether or not Ant would be able to host, having spent a few months in rehab due to becoming addicted to painkillers after a botched operation on his knee left him in excruciating pain. However, it seems Ant is feeling much better, as he told The Sun, “I’m excited to be back. I can’t wait. It’s going to be a good show. I’m feeling great.” Dec added, “It’s brilliant to be back together – it’s perfect. Everything slots back into place. We can’t wait and we are raring to go.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! starts on Sunday, November 19, on ITV at 9 pm Greenwich time.
