Life is full of unpleasant surprises and not even a superhero like Wolverine, I mean Hugh Jackman, can do much about it. Case in point? The latest award for Best Actor, Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes. Which went to the excellent James Franco.
Much to Hugh Jackman’s dramatic, unforgettable dismay (thanks, Unilad). Like, did you catch the moment during Franco’s speech when Hugh was just… Sitting there? Stunned?

Poor Hugh looks almost catatonic. People were sad for him on Twitter:
Going to sleep tonight with hopes that I’ll wake up tomorrow but it will actually be today and the Golden Globes will happen all over again except with Hugh Jackman / The Greatest Showman as the winner of all awards and I’ll have no recollection of this betrayal

When it comes to real life and putting fake smiles on, it turns out, Hugh Jackman is one terrible actor. He just can’t. But could you? Imagine spending days writing your acceptance speech… Now wrapped in a neat letter in your pocket. The long-awaited moment comes, and… It’s not your name. There’s James Franco blaring about something on stage. Who? You’re not even sure. It doesn’t matter. Nothing matters anymore. If you stare into the abyss the abyss stares back. AHEM.
Here’s more Twitter reactions:
Seeing Hugh Jackman literally losing the sparks of hope and joy in the moment Franco won is probably the saddest thing of 2018 don’t @ me #GoldenGlobes

Franco getting the award was, however, in my view, completely justified. He won the “Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture” award for playing the odd, but genius, Tommy Wiseau in The Disaster Artist.
In turn, Hugh Jackman was nominated for his performance as the circus entrepreneur PT Barnum in The Greatest Showman. I guess it’s true what they say – expectation is the mother of all f**k ups.
Watch Franco’s acceptance speech and High’s anguish here:
Twitter was compassionate:
nothing against james franco or anything but hugh jackman deserved that so much more, he spent more than 7 years just preparing for that role in the greatest showman… DID WE WATCH THE SAME FILM?? #GoldenGlobes

Hugh Jackman was robbed at the Golden Globes; that man is probably the hardest working in show business, pushing 7 years for a fantastic musical against all odds #TheGreatestShowman

Well… What to say? I’m sorry Hugh. Maybe next time?
On the bright side, it will be a great meme material.
