Jennifer Lawrence has become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. She is one of the few lucky actresses who had the opportunity reach huge fame in a very short period.
Until very recently, she was considered the highest paid actress within the industry.
Over the past few years, Jennifer has been an advocate for women’s rights within Hollywood. She has certainly not been shy about criticizing the real situation in Hollywood.
She says that female talents have to deal with a certain dose of unfairness compared to their male counterparts on a daily basis.
The Cut reported that Jennifer Lawrence has finally decided to open up about her personal experiences with sexual harassment in Hollywood.
She admitted feeling ‘trapped’ when she was required to do a naked line-up with other actresses.
She reminisced the incident in her speech during Elle‘s Women event in Hollywood, where she was one of the 8 chosen women to receive honours.
Lawrence said: ‘A female producer had me do a nude line-up with about five women who were much, much, thinner than me.We are stood side-by-side with only tape covering our privates.
‘After that degrading and humiliating line-up, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet.’-she added.
The 27-year-old actress took this chance to share that she took the grievance to another producer in order to tell them this kind of behavior is unacceptable.
What she got was that she was ‘perfectly f*ckable’ and ‘ didn’t understand why everyone thought she was so fat’.
We found out was that Lawrence had been previously told to lose 15 pounds in just a few weeks to get that particular role she wanted.
By describing these events and their effects, Jennifer said she felt ‘trapped by what had happened to her’. She got the courage to say out loud something that happens in Hollywood on a daily basis.
‘I let myself be treated a certain way because I felt I had to for my career.’ she stated.
By sharing this with the public, she has broken free of the chains of body shaming in the filming industry. Lawrence has become a ray of light for other women who found themselves in the same or similar situation.
Jennifer is a true inspiration for all men and women around the world.
The actress even got the courage to get involved with Fashion Police’s ex-host, Joan Rivers, by saying that the show is harmful to children.
As far as the alleged abuse of Harvey Weinstein is concerned, Lawrence said that the resulting openness of women who are sharing their experiences of sexual harassment are ‘oddly unifying’.
He has been accused for sexual abuse multiple times throughout his career. He was publicly accused by women like Cara Delevigne and Rose McGowan.
When I first started to work as an actress, i was working on a film and I received a call from Harvey Weinstein asking if I had slept with any of the women I was seen out with in the media. It was a very odd and uncomfortable call….i answered none of his questions and hurried off the phone but before I hung up, he said to me that If I was gay or decided to be with a woman especially in public that I’d never get the role of a straight woman or make it as an actress in Hollywood. A year or two later, I went to a meeting with him in the lobby of a hotel with a director about an upcoming film. The director left the meeting and Harvey asked me to stay and chat with him. As soon as we were alone he began to brag about all the actresses he had slept with and how he had made their careers and spoke about other inappropriate things of a sexual nature. He then invited me to his room. I quickly declined and asked his assistant if my car was outside. She said it wasn’t and wouldn’t be for a bit and I should go to his room. At that moment I felt very powerless and scared but didn’t want to act that way hoping that I was wrong about the situation. When I arrived I was relieved to find another woman in his room and thought immediately I was safe. He asked us to kiss and she began some sort of advances upon his direction. I swiftly got up and asked him if he knew that I could sing. And I began to sing….i thought it would make the situation better….more professional….like an audition….i was so nervous. After singing I said again that I had to leave. He walked me to the door and stood in front of it and tried to kiss me on the lips. I stopped him and managed to get out of the room. I still got the part for the film and always thought that he gave it to me because of what happened. Since then I felt awful that I did the movie. I felt like I didn’t deserve the part. I was so hesitant about speaking out….I didn’t want to hurt his family. I felt guilty as if I did something wrong. I was also terrified that this sort of thing had happened to so many women I know but no one had said anything because of fear.
Numerous victims are sharing their stories on Twitter under the hashtag #metoo, to spread awareness about this problem.
The Hollywood producer doesn’t stop there. Reportedly, he has been under investigation because of three further sexual assault allegations in London.
The 65-year-old producer, whose fortune is estimated on $200 million, denied the accuses concerning sexual harrassment, reported New Yorker. However, right now he is in a sexual addiction counseling.
Way to go Jennifer! The world needs more women like you. She proves that nobody is safe from the culture which sucks in everyone who wants to achieve fast fame.
What is important is not to stay silent about this problem. That can only leave the victims powerless and give the perpetrators strength.
