The 2017 London Fashion Week took place between the 15th and 19th of September and one of the events that caught the eye was Julien Macdonald’s stunning showcase. On Monday night (September 18th), the former Givenchy chief designer filled the front row with star-studded attendees at the famed Bankside Vaults nightclub, desperate to see his Spring/Summer 2018 collection.
Led by Canadian vitiligo queen Winnie Harlow, the catwalk parade included Alessandra Ambrosio and Martha Hunt who presented outfits, many of which looked like they were designed to be worn without underwear.

Toronto-born Winnie was dressed in a tiny tutu dress paired with only black panties and barely-visible perspex heels. She was joined by Hailey Baldwin, the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, as well as top Victoria’s Secret models Ambrosio and Hunt.

Alessandra Ambrosio, 36, walked out in a blue very low-cut bodice with just a sarong style sheer fabric draped over the front. Dazzling in the beautiful CÎROC luxury vodka-inspired dress, the mother-of-two demonstrated why she’s so highly in demand when it comes to modeling lingerie. Speaking after the event, Ambrosio said: “What an incredible way to finale the wonderful week of celebrations in London! I was happy when Julien Macdonald designed this dress for me – especially one that is perfect for celebratory occasions! Wearing the CÎROC Utopia dress on tonight’s catwalk was an amazing occasion and definitely one of great on arrival moments to date!”
Meanwhile, Martha Hunt modeled two outfits: one a simple silver mesh and another featuring an exquisite drop hem that followed behind her like a glamorous cape.

The “parallel universe” concept of Julien Macdonald’s cutting-edge Spring/Summer ’18 designs features spring-like brights of green and cobalt while playing on the theme of lingerie – both drawing attention to its presence and absence.
The new collection juxtaposes the Welsh-born designer’s iconic, signature silhouettes with a futuristic, streamlined glamour. According to the DailyMail, “high-voltage, form-fitting pieces in molten shades of gold, silver, black and pewter intersperse with flashes of scarlet, ombre sapphire blue and yellow, transporting guests to a modern Utopia”.
Inspired by Macdonald’s visit to the Amazonian rainforest inspired the nocturnal foliage motifs appear on flowing silk chiffon. At the end of the stunning show in the heart of London, the designer was brought out with a standing ovation from the crowd as the models gathered around him and ribbon foil fell from the ceiling.

Macdonald was dressed in all black in order not to detract from the new collection being presented, but according to the Mail “looked proud to be presenting yet another eponymous collection”.
Front row guests included Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden, TV and radio presenter Lisa Snowdon, Australian fashion designer Storm Keating as well as British actress Sheridan Smith.
Holden brought her lookalike 11-year-old daughter Lexi along for the exciting experience, saying: “Julien knows how to show off our best bits. My daughter is interested in modeling and fashion and stuff so she’s here with me.”

Julien Macdonald said: “My SS18 collection has been designed with elegant, strong and body confident women and men in mind and showcases looks that are inspired by a modern Utopia and my recent trips to the Amazonian rainforest. This season, I wanted to provide the ultimate balance between my signature high-octane red carpet wear and the sense of entering a new world.”
“I have given my second-skin, highly embellished pieces a stronger, sportier edge. Alessandra Ambrosio and CÎROC are the perfect partners to collaborate with for London Fashion Week as she embodies the powerful, independent women I dress and CÎROC represents the luxury lifestyle we all aspire to. I designed the CÎROC Utopia dress, featuring the brand’s signature ombré sapphire blue, to capture CÎROC’s energy and ‘On Arrival’ campaign,” the 46-year-old explained.
