Justin Bieber has hit out at fellow Canadian artist Abel Makkonen Tesfaye – better known as the Weeknd – after the R&B artist was seen sharing some love with Bieber’s ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.
Bieber and Gomez were officially a thing for about two years before ending the relationship at the beginning of 2013. It has been reported that they have been on and off together numerous times since.
They have recently had altercations on social media during which Bieber accused Selena of seeking attention, while she accused him of “cheating”.
But things have continued to escalate quickly!
Journalists have not helped to ease tensions by constantly pressing Bieber ever since it was announced that The Weeknd and Gomez are dating. He initially held it together by declining to comment when asked about the new lovebirds on the 15th of January.
But he wouldn’t hold his tongue for long…
On the January 20th Bieber was asked whether he listens to The Weeknd and what he thought of his music. The pop-star said: “No, I can’t listen to a Weeknd song!”
When pressed further about why he would not listen to his compatriot Bieber snapped: “That sh*t is wack!”
The Weeknd has also been on slippery ground recently, and it seems like former lovers’ influence plays a large role in his relationship with Gomez. Their relationship began only a couple of months after he broke it off with L.A.-born model Bella Hadid.
The winner of the Model of the Year Award for 2016, voted by Model.com and the Weeknd had been in a serious relationship that started back in early 2015. The two decided to go their separate ways in November, 2016.
Selena Gomez, the Weeknd’s new girlfriend, is good friends with Bella Hadid’s older sister Gigi. Reportedly this did nothing to help the general atmosphere in their friend circle. Although, Gigi has been doing her best to mediate the whole situation.
What might be making the whole thing even more complicated, is the fact that Tesfaye and Hadid did not break up because of tangible problems in their relationship. Both have stated that they were still very much in love but just couldn’t see enough of one another because of scheduling conflicts.
Gigi, Bella Hadid’s sister has stood firmly behind her sister and has reinstated her support. She is, however, sure that once feelings have cooled down a bit, everyone involved will be able to “sit down and talk everything out”.
