Well, this certainly is music to our ears! Kelly Clarkson and Pink will finally perform together to open the 2017 American Music Awards.
It’s perhaps one of the most anticipated collaborations ever, with fans of both stars asking for it to happen for many years now. Finally, it is here!
Both Kelly Clarkson and Pink have been very complimentary about each other over the years. They both love each other’s work, so the two vocal powerhouses are probably very excited to perform together at last.
Earlier this month,C larkson spoke to EW editor-in-chief Henry Goldblatt at the magazine’s A-List event in New York City. She said, “I’m a huge fan of Pink. I haven’t had the chance yet to work with her. I think if you project it enough, it might happen, right?”
Indeed it might.
On November 6, the 35-year-old singer announced via Twitter that she will be singing “The Meaning Of Life” from her latest album of the same title, and another fan favorite song at the AMAs. We can only assume that the fan favorite one will be a duet with Pink.
Pink’s return to the AMAs was announced last week. She is set to take to the stage and perform the title track of her newest album, “Beautiful Trauma.” The album, which was released on October 13, debuted at the top spot of the Billboard 200.
This won’t be Pink’s first appearance at the AMAs. The first time the 38-year-old singer performed at the awards show was in 2001, when she sang her hit song “Most Girls.” Next, she came back in 2003, 2008, and most recently in 2012, when she was all over the media because of the amazing acrobatics she did while singing “Try.”
This year’s American Music Awards will be a family affair.
The show will be hosted by Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross. Her mum, legendary singer Diana Ross, will be both receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award and performing.
“She’s a bit of an international treasure in my opinion,” the 45-year-old actress said about her mother in an interview for People magazine. “I’m excited that a younger generation gets to witness that, even just through the television screen. Also I think it’s a really extraordinary thing to honor somebody who’s had such an everlasting career, whose music has touched lives in such a poignant and special way. Music reaches into your heart, and my mom’s voice has been a part of people’s lives for a long time.”
The performers’ list
Also on the list of performers is Selena Gomez. She is set to make her first appearance after her recent kidney transplant surgery. The 25-year-old former Disney-star will perform her newest single “Wolves.” Last year, on the same stage she received the award for favorite female artist pop/rock.
The ceremony will also honor the late Whitney Houston with a commemorative tribute performed by Christina Aguilera, which will celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Bodyguard‘s release as well.
Other performers at the AMAs include Demi Lovato, Imagine Dragons, Shawn Mendes, Lady Gaga, Alessia Cara and many more.
The 2017 American Music Awards will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The show will air live on Sunday, November 19 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
