Elyse Capestany is a 23-year-old kindergarten teacher who has been on the keto diet since May 25th, 2017. She has lost 57 pounds so far and has learned many new things along the way. This type of diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate one. In medicine, it is used to treat difficult-to-control epilepsy in children, and it’s recommended for people who have diabetes. Elyse used to have 206 pounds and 44% body fat. Now she has 149 pounds and has cut her body fat down to 25.5%! That’s one incredible transformation. The kindergarten teacher shared her weight loss story with POPSUGAR. For her, losing weight was about so much more than “looking good in a bathing suit.”
The 23-year-old told POPSUGAR, “It’s about having healthy levels of cholesterol without pumping in medication; it’s about reversing diabetes; it’s about waking up in the morning and putting on clothes without crying!”
#transformationtuesday ⬇️57 pounds since 5/25/2017 ❤️I never in my life thought I would EVER wear a skin tight dress ever again! But ALL things are possible to those who have the discipline, dedication, and desire to work for their goals! NO it ISNT easy! But guess what else isn’t easy? Being fat! Being depressed, hating yourself, wishing you could get out of bed without it hurting to walk, crying every time you get dressed because nothing fits, mindlessly eating and hating yourself after then doing it agin 5 minutes later, feeling like you are suffocating and can’t break the terrible cycle you’re in. THAT is so much harder than it is to workout and eat healthy. The pros to losing weight out weigh (hahaha) the cons a million times over!!! All it takes is the decision to put yourself, your life, and your health above your excuses! It won’t be perfect and you may fall but keep getting back up and remember YOU ARE WORTH IT! ❤️ If you want to get started but don’t know where to start, click the link in my bio! Go to the menu and look through all the FAQs and “what is keto?” I detailed everything I did to get started, what I do now, and all the keto basics! I hope it helps! ❤️#ketoweightloss #keto #ketoworks #weightloss #weightlosstransformation #weightlossjourney #ketolife #ketofood #ketotransformation #ketocommunity #ketofam #ketofamily #100daysofketo #healthy #healthylifestyle #loveyourself #ketogains
She exercises at least 6 days a week and is also on the keto diet. “There are many types of keto, and I do a more whole-food approach,” Elyse said. She likes that the diet is diverse and eats a lot of lean meats and vegetables, paired with “healthy fats like avocado, coconut, nuts, seeds, and some dairy like sour cream and cheese.”
She can also indulge in “traditional wings, bunless burgers, steak, and Chipotle.” Yummy!
Now, the Highland, California resident eats 90% clean and makes a concerted effort to limit dairy. Also, Elyse eats between 1,200 and 1,500 calories on any given day, and she explains: “I am never low on energy. I have energy simply from doing keto!” This diet turns your body into a fat-burning machine which means you will have a lot of energy. When it comes to her diet she eats two big meals every day. “My first meal is at 12 p.m. and the second is around 5 p.m.,” she explained. “I don’t drink anything in the morning except water. This allows me to eat two bigger meals and feel satisfied all day!”
#transformationtuesday May at 206 poundsNovember at about 150ish but I’m not exactly sure because THE SCALE DOESN’T DEFINE ME! The changes that make the most difference are my health, my happiness, my ability to have control over my life again! I’m getting dressed in the morning WITHOUT CRYING! I can actually go out for a run without dying! I don’t dread social interaction in fear of being judged! It’s such a beautiful thing to focus on your health. The scale is only a teensy tiny part of health and wellness. Focus every day on being a better, healthier, and happier you, and the hold the scale has over you will fade ❤️ #loveyourself #healthymindandbody #keto #ketogenic #ketoworks #ketogenicdiet #ketodiet #ketogains #ketoweightloss #ketoweightlossjourney #weightloss #weightlossjourney #weightlosstransformation #ketotransformation #ketogenicweightloss #intermittentfasting
Even if this diet is known to be controversial, Elyse says that she loves being on it. “Your body is amazing and gets used to not eating breakfast quickly!”
Also, she is aware that exercise has countless benefits and started going to a gym and taking small-group HIIT classes. “It’s different exercises in each station with weights, and when we rotate, we do cardio in between for about 30 seconds,” she said. “It is amazing!”
One problem she struggled with throughout her weight-loss journey was overcoming her binge-eating disorder. However, she states that she is happier and healthier than ever.
#transformationtuesday Winter Workout clothes edition I had a pretty big slump this past few weeks and after just 2 DAYS back in the gym, I’m already feeling so much happier, more confident, and healthier! I am asked often what my workouts are and you can find that information in the link in my bio, but really, any exercise is going to be great for your mind and body! It can be as simple as a 30 minute YouTube exercise or as complex as a heavy weight hit work out at your gym♀️! Start moving your body and you will feel better! It’s a natural stress reducing, endorphin boosting, body improving tool that is often underutilized. And of course, if you have any questions about keto check out the link in my bio! The kindergarten teacher has a good piece of advice for women who are trying to lose weight:
“It’s about remembering that you are worth it, you deserve it, and you will be better because of your effort! It’s about being happy mentally and physically and being able to do things like go hiking or play with your kids! Health matters both mentally and physically.”
