Kirk Douglas is a legend who celebrated his 101st birthday on Sunday with a party that featured two Douglas-themed cakes. Now, that is pretty epic. One of the last living people of the film industry’s Golden Age celebrated his centenary-plus-one with his wife Anne, and sons Michael and Joel, as well as granddaughter Kelsey, by his side. The actor celebrated his 101st birthday and his family paid tribute to his iconic screen roles. Douglas is a bona fide superstar, with a career that was at its peak from the 1940’s to the 1960’s. He has been in a lot of movies but some of his most famous are Spartacus, The Bad and the Beautiful and Paths of Glory.
The 101-year-old screen legend celebrated the birthday with his wife Anne, who is 98 years old.
In an interview with Closer magazine, the actor spoke about the love he feels for his wife: “I was lucky enough to find my soulmate 63 years ago, and I believe our wonderful marriage and our nightly ‘golden hour’ chats have helped me survive all things.”
Kirk’s grandson posted a lovely photo on Instagram which he captioned: “Happy birthday 101 years and still sexy love you with all my heart Pappy.”
Cameron Douglas who is also Kirk’s grandson shared a photo that he captioned: “Here’s to 101 years of art, inspiration, and philanthropy…still going strong! Happy Birthday, Pappy! #Livinglegend”.
Even Catherine Zena-Jones who is married to Kirk’s son Michael Douglas wished the actor a happy birthday and shared a heartwarming photo.
And of course, the legend got two cakes. A Vincent van Gogh-themed birthday cake as a reference to Kirks’ role in the movie Lust for Life which is about the life of Van Gogh. And another as a reference to the movie Champion. This movie got Douglas his first Academy Award nomination.
