And the acclaim is well deserved. We think so, anyway! The iconic lion duo of Simba and Nala will be voiced by none other than the excellent Donald Glover and Beyoncé respectively. But there’s more awesomeness: James Earl Jones, who starred in the original 1994 film will return to lend his voice as Simba’s father, Mufasa, once again. John Oliver, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner will play Zazu, Pumbaa and Timon – a real-life comedic trio to match the fictional one in every respect!

If there ever was a perfect cast, this comes pretty damn close to it. Furthermore, the original songs are expected to return as well and the film will be a live-action remake. Disney has done the same with The Jungle Book, which was released last year and went on to become a box office smash grossing nearly $1 billion worldwide.

The film, directed by Jon Favreau (Chef, The Jungle Book, Iron Man 1 & 2), will be released in the summer of 2019. Needless to say, we’re confident the movie will be a success and the fans will be ecstatic. But they already are!

Fans were overjoyed with the announcement of the full cast, with many saying Glover’s and Beyoncé’s inclusion, and the casting of Chiwetel Ejiofor as the villainous Scar, would add musical superstar power to an already talented roster.
