Grieving Mother Excused In Court By Judge Frank Caprio

A grieving mother was moved to tears of joy when Judge Frank Caprio eased her burden after being called in court for several unpaid tickets.

Namely, a woman named Andrea has been called to court to be questioned in regards to past and recent unpaid tickets which she was stalling to pay.

Eighty-year-old Judge Frank Caprio, chief municipal judge in Providence, Rhode Island and the former Chairman of the Rhode Island Board of Governors led the hearing. He is also known as the television judge on ABC’s Caught in Providence.

He went through her tickets. There were two dating 2004 and 2005 respectively which she wasn’t even aware of and they summed up to a total of 50$.

“So far you are doing pretty good cause all you got is fifty dollars,” said Judge Caprio.

Going forward to her more recent tickets, they cost more than several hundred dollars. It was Andrea’s turn to speak.

She went back to the first of November last year when she was charged in front of the Social Security building where she had to go since her son owed money to the state. She then added that her son was actually killed in March 2016.

This is where matters took a turn.

The woman went through her recent history through tears. It seems like things went downhill for her after her son’s death.

She got a ticket after a ticket while trying to cover all the unfinished business that she had regarding her son’s passing away.

On top of that, her landlord got her evicted and between trying to pay for her son’s funeral and trying to find a new home to live, she had one bad thing happening to her after the other.

“I’ve had a tough year already, I am on SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance)… I don’t have 400$ to give you,” said Andrea.

“Like I don’t know where these money are supposed to come from.”

You can see that Judge Caprio is visibly distressed from all that he’s heard.

“I think we can all express sympathy to you and understand the trauma that you have experienced,” said Judge Caprio.

“I am going to take all of the circumstances that you just explained to me into consideration and see if I can balance the equities to protect the interest of the city and take into consideration the horrific story that you just told us relative to your son.”

“I don’t think anyone in their lifetime would ever want to experience that, so…”

“It’s the worst feeling in the world,” added Andrea.

Then the Judge decided to do something out of the ordinary.

“I am going to reduce this to fifty dollars. How much time do you need to pay it?”

“I have it on me now,” responded Andrea.

“That’s not going to leave you without any money, is it?” asked her the Judge.

“I’ll leave here with five dollars.”

The Judge was not happy to hear that. You can tell by his facial expressions that he is truly affected by this woman’s hardship.

“I’m not gonna live you with five dollars! I’m gonna dismiss everything!”

Then he reached a verdict.

“With that, best wishes and I hope that things turn around good for you. Good luck to you!”

Some people are just amazing. It’s no wonder Judge Caprio has been re-appointed six times by the mayor of Providence and the Providence City Council. Faith in humanity restored.
