Mother Puts Her Phone Down To Watch Twins Play And Shares A Powerful Message

The world of social media and the Internet era have entered into our lives out of nowhere and we were fast to follow through. We wouldn’t miss one single upgrade on the smartphones, or tablets and computers, and, sadly, many people have become technology-addicted. The smartphone era also brought a new sad social effect, which is the absence of talk. People started staring at screens more than they actually talk. You can see this anywhere on social events. But one mother decided to stop staring at her phone screen for the sake of her kids. And you should read her story. This Californian mom will teach you a lesson.

In November 2015, a young mom from Lakeside, California, did something simple, yet poignant.

Brandie Wood, mother-of-twins, decided to do a little social experiment from the comfort of her own home. Little did she know what would come out of this experiment, a sad, and common truth we are not aware of. Brandie then took to Facebook to share the results of her experiment. Her post then went viral.

“Today I did an experiment, I watched my boys play,” she wrote.

“As I sat quietly in the corner of the room I tallied how many times they looked at me for various reasons: to see if I saw their cool tricks, to seek approval or disapproval for what they were doing, and to watch my reactions.”

She goes on: “I couldn’t help but wonder if I was on some sort of technology what message would I have been sending?”

“28 times my angels would have wondered if the World Wide Web was more important than them. 28 times my boys would have not received the attention most adults are searching for.”

People can often become the slaves of their phones, and are completely unaware of it. When this happens to parents, it sends the wrong message to their children.

That’s why she begs parents to be different and put down their phones.

Instead, they should spend time with their kids.

Brandie’s powerful message went viral and was shared more than 70,000 times.

Brandie was, of course, touched to see so many people have positive reactions.

“We as a people have the power to change things.”

“Just being aware will help tremendously,” Brandie told The Huffington Post.

She also admits that she is a bit addicted to her phone.
