Sussex-based Casey Rider, 22, and Mark Goodwin, 34, beat 12 other finalists to earn the PETA title of ‘The UK and Ireland’s Sexiest Vegans’ in a competition voted by the public. This couple has been together for a year and a half and they hope to convince people to become vegan by showing their extraordinary physiques achieved with their plant-based diet. Casey, who is a charity worker from Bexhill-on-Sea, said: ‘Veganism to me means compassion – compassion for everyone, whether they have feet, scales, or feathers. Once I discovered veganism, I made a promise to myself that I would not stop sharing and educating people about veganism until every animal is free.’
Casey’s partner, Mark, is a fitness instructor. He is hoping to use his work to spread awareness about his vegan diet. Casey enjoys using the Crossfit regime to keep in shape.
‘I went vegan 100 per cent for the animals – overnight!’ Mark explained to the media.
‘I try to use my influence as a fitness coach to inform people that veganism is strong, healthy, and ethical’.
This incredible pair are passionate about ‘clean eating’. They explain that there are also vegan alternatives to comfort foods, such as pizza and even chocolate.
Actually, they are sometimes very busy and don’t have time to eat clean food.
The gym-addicted couple get their protein from nutrious breakfasts. These include oats with almond milk, blueberries and chia seeds or protein Banana Pancakes with soy yogurt and strawberries. Additionally, they also eat mixed grains, avocados, olives, rice, quinoa, lentils, chickpeas or mixed beans. Sometimes, they also consume bagels, oats, variety of nut butters, mixed nuts, dried fruit and olives.
For snacks the pair enjoy Tesco’s Free From chocolate buttons and banana dipped in chocolate spread. They explain that it’s quite easy because nowadays there is alternative for every vegan food for them.
‘Nowadays for every non-vegan food there is a vegan alternative. Pizza and sausage rolls for example.’
The other finalists in PETA’s contest included a bartender, teacher and an HGV driver.
‘The two winners are as attractive on the inside as they are on the outside,’ said PETA Director Elisa Allen.
The couple have won an eight course meal at London restaurant Gauthier Soho
