Istanbul-based photography craftsman Hüseyin Şahin blends the seemingly unconnectable. By using photography and Photoshop, this Turkish visual artist creates phantasmagoric dreamscapes which connect the surreal and the spectacular.
By blending reality and fantasy, Şahin connects dreamlike images that would not look out of place on any progressive music record cover from the past or present. Şahin’s unique take on photo manipulation aims towards pushing the limits of human imagination and creating landscapes that resemble wild dreams, intense nightmares, or something in between.
Şahin’s imagery often relies on juxtaposing the man-made and the natural, as well as being heavily influenced by folklore – one notable example being a photo of the mythical Maiden’s Tower in Istanbul featuring an underwater woman, perhaps as a reference to the famous legend of Hero and Leander – as well as contemporary issues such as children in war-torn Syria.
