Prince Harry captures the public eye again, this time with the glittering of diamonds. In a surprising move, the Prince paid a wonderful tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana, with the engagement ring ha gave to Meghan Markle.
As Unilad reports, in the forging of the beautiful engagement ring, he used two diamonds which were once part of Diana’s personal jewelry collection. Besides the obvious tribute and significance that the two precious rocks have, he also made sure the ring looked fittingly royal. It features a band of gold, in the center of which sits a large diamond from Botswana, with the two smaller diamonds from his mother placed on its sides.
He entrusted the making of the precious ring to the good old royal jewelers Cleave and Company, who are Court Jewellers and Medallists to Her Majesty The Queen.
The engagement itself was announced earlier today, by Clarence House.
Here is the official announcement:
“His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle.
The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.
His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents.”
The new royal couple will accommodate themselves in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace:

This is not the first time that parts of Diana’s jewelry have been used; it was Prince William who broke the ice and proposed to Kate Middleton with the sapphire and diamond ring, that his mother used in her engagement to Prince Charles.
After Princess Diana died tragically in 1997, her sons, who were still boys, were asked to choose their ‘keepsakes’ from their mother’s belongings. The Mirror reports the following, told to The Daily Star by an anonymous source:
“William picked his mum’s Cartier watch, and Harry picked her sapphire and diamond engagement ring. Harry was only 12-years-old when he chose to keep his mum’s engagement ring – however, as William was the first to get engaged Harry gave it up so his brother could ask Kate to marry him.”
The source went on to add that: “They had an agreement that whoever got engaged first would have Diana’s ring – and of course that was William and Kate.”
But why did Harry choose the diamond from Botswana? Well, it turns out that Prince Harry visited Botswana many times in his life, and it is where he spent time together with Meghan Markle. It can be said, then, that they had Botswana in their hearts, but also, now, on their wedding rings.
We wish them good luck!
