According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star of The CW teen drama Riverdale, KJ Apa, was involved in a traffic accident in Vancouver last week when his car’s passenger side hit a light pole but was uninjured. The New Zealander allegedly fell asleep at the wheel after what was initially reported to have been a 16-hour shoot the previous day.
The young star was driving himself home when he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a light pole. He was treated at the scene and did not sustain serious injuries.
The show has since moved forward with production, but the incident has raised questions about the conditions in which the young members of the cast are working and their safety.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source close to the production said that “they’re working these kids from morning until night.”
“Someone’s going to die,” they added.

Warner Bros. Television has released two statements about the incident, addressing details about the accident and cast safety.
“KJ has repeatedly been informed about making production aware if he is tired or feels unsafe, and if so, either a ride or hotel room will be provided for him,” one of the statements said.
Warner Bros. also denied initial reports that the 20-year-old had worked for 16 hours and that he had been taken to the hospital after the accident.

It has also been reported that co-star Cole Sprouse had planned to get a ride home with Apa, but fortunately changed his plans at the last minute, as the passenger seat of the car was totally destroyed. None of the show’s stars have commented on the incident yet.
Auckland-born Keneti James Fitzgerald Apa, who plays Archie Andrews on the Archie Comics-based show, was selected for the role after a four-month worldwide talent search in 2016. In New Zealand, he is known for playing Kane Jenkins in the prime-time soap opera Shortland Street.
