High School Rejects Teen’s Senior Photo And She Starts A Twitter Debate

debate

Eleanor Fitzwilliams, a senior at Verona Area High School has been denied her senior picture, because her bralette was visible on it. At the same time, the school allowed for the men’s swim team to pose in tiny speedos. Makes perfect sense, right? The teen’s reaction was more than brave, and she got a lot of responses on Twitter (spoiler: most of them were positive). The 17-year-old student was furious and started a serious debate on Twitter.

The 17-year-old posted her rejected senior picture alongside the men’s swim team’s in a tweet on 26 September. Her tweet has now gone viral with more than 33,000 retweets and sparked a debate.

“Here’s my senior picture. Because you can see part of my bralette, it was “too inappropriate”. Yet, here’s the boy’s swim team picture,” Eleanor wrote on Twitter.

She later explained that her purpose was not to target the men’s swim team, but the unfair rules.

“My tweet wasn’t to call out the boys it’s about the school saying my pic wasn’t ok but they show way more skin and get their pic seen a lot more,” said the senior.

That’s not all! She’s actually planning on speaking to the principal ‘with a fully prepared argument’ and asked people on Twitter to advise her.

Some Twitter users supported her. One even gave this advice.

‘Submit a new one in a speedo,’ advised one Twitter user.

‘Send in the same pic but over ur [sic] bralette photoshop the swim teams nipples,’ added another.

A member of the school’s swim team, James Walnut, also commented.

‘Given that I’m the extra hefty one in the center row of the pic I guarantee that it was the last thing I wanted too see in the yearbook too,’ he admitted.

Others’ however, agreed with the high school’s decision for her to change the picture.

One reply to Eleanor’s tweet read: ‘An exposed bra is not a sports uniform. I understand how ridiculous and old school this is but it’s sort of apples and oranges here…’
