Being a single parent can be hard work. Jumping into parenting is daunting enough with a partner. When you’re a single parent going it alone, the stakes seem that much higher. From diaper duty with no shift changes to shelling out for college tuition all on your own, single parenting is not for the faint of heart.
Samantha Welch is a very special young woman in her twenties. She is doing an amazing job as a single mom providing for her little boy, Rylan.
One sunny day in 2015, Samantha had taken three-year-old son Rylan on a train. He was a little bit naughty, so she sat him on her lap and tried to occupy him and keep him quiet on the journey. On the train, there was a man, who was wearing a hat and glasses. The man sat down near her and Samanta tried to make a space for him and his bags.
When the man reached his stop, he stood up, tapped her on the shoulder, and said, “I think you’ve dropped this out of your bag.” He handed her a folded up piece of paper and exited the train. When Samantha read the stranger’s words, she was so shocked that she wanted to cry right there in her seat. This was the first time she saw the man who wore glasses and a hat.
On the train, the man must have been watching Samantha trying to keep Rylan occupied, from playing games to general chitchat. At one point, Samantha was trying to teach Rylan a quick lesson in manners. IAfter awhile, Rylan fell asleep while Samantha cuddled him warmly. The man was clearly blown away and wrote an incredible note to her:
But that’s not all the note said. When Samantha looked closer, there was a wrapped £5 bill.
The note read:
Have a drink on me, you’re a credit to your generation, polite and teaching the little boy good manners. P.S. I have a daughter your age, someone did the same for her once. Hope when she has children she is as good a mother as you.
The note was signed as “man on the train with glasses and hat.”
