If you believed that social media can’t bring you any good, this is a story that will prove you wrong. One Plymouth State University student never believed her life will change completely after casually posing for a photographer at Howard University’s homecoming event. 19-year-old Anok Yai’s pictures quickly went viral, and she is about to become a model. Sounds like a dream? Here is her story.
One photographer approached her and snapped some images for his Instagram account, theSUNK. The photographer told her he was just taking some pictures of people that were dressed well. Also, he mentioned they could go viral. But little did Yai know that this was life-changing.
People on social media went crazy, saying that she should become a model.
The photos have been liked more than 11,000 times, since being posted on Sunday, October 29.
Yai told the Globe:
“My phone just started vibrating rapidly for a long, long time. At first, I honestly thought someone made a meme of me or something.”
Then, something really interesting happened. Her new followers started tagging modeling agencies asking them to give her a job. Surprisingly enough, their plan worked and she got a few offers.
The student moved to Manchester, New Hampshire in 2000 from Egypt. She has always had an interest in fashion and art, but modeling was a bit dreamy for her. Yai studies biochemistry but is now considering modelling as a part-time job.
Unilad reports her statement:
“It was a dream that I always wanted, but I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen…At first, I questioned what everyone was seeing because I didn’t really see it. Honestly, I think that people get so used to seeing themselves that people don’t see their own beauty because they see it everyday.”
