This Tampa Bay police officer stumbled upon a sight in the woods unlike any other.
Although he had come across situations like this before, he hadn’t seen something quite like this.
In the wooded area of Manhattan Avenue in South Tampa Florida, Homeless Liaison Officer Daniel McDonald discovered a tent and living area that belonged to a couple named Evelyn and Rocky. These two had been living in the woods homeless for almost three years, after they had lost their second child which sent both of them spiraling into depression.
As mentioned before, this was the second loss for the mother. She had previously lost her son in a tragic car accident. After their second loss, both Evelyn and Rocky gave up everything they had and started living in the woods.
She and Rocky were by each other’s side through life’s ups and downs–more low points though, since they were homeless and had experienced painful loss.
Officer McDonald approached the couple, that was actually together for 22 (23 now) years, and he learned about their situation, losses, sadness and their inability to get back on track.
Their situation was so tough, they couldn’t even afford the $93 marriage license.
Officer McDonald decided he was going to make things happen for this unfortunate couple.
In what can only be described as an act of pure compassion and charity, the officer phoned a few bussinesses, and together, forged a $20,000 dream wedding for Evelyn Adams and Rocky Barlett.
Now, this is a cop I wouldn’t mind hanging out with!
“This is a dream come true and everybody that has done all this… it has just been a dream come true. It is awesome that all these people come together for these two homeless old people.”
Together with their loyal canine, the couple had often wondered what it would be like to have a home they could call their own. Officer McDonald was critical in making that come to fruition. Rocky told WFLA-TV how excited he was for a fresh start.
“We look forward to a new life, to start over, that’s about all I can say, it is going to be a start over.”
The Cross Creek Ranch facility was donated for the wedding by its owner, while others had donated a wedding dress for Evelyn, and a tuxedo for Rocky, as well as all the other necessary stuff to make a wedding.
