Channing Tatum Will No Longer Work With The Weinstein Company

Recently, the American film producer Harvey Weinstein, 65, was accused of several cases of sexual assault. Since then, the Weinstein film production company has had a lot of challenging moments. In addition, more women came forward with their accusations of abuse.

The executives of the company revealed that many employees knew about 65-year-old Weinstein’s behavior before. Regardless, the company fired him only after the news went public. Soon after, one of the Hollywood’s most famous actors, Channing Tatum 37, refused to continue to work with the Weinstein Company.

Channing Tatum became famous for his role as an incredible dancer in the movie Magic Mike. The actor is not only passionate about dancing, but also about gender equality and being a male role model. He married the actress and dancer Jenna Dewan, 36, in 2009. Together they have a daughter named Evelyn.

Channing decided that his first role as director will no longer develop. He based this decision on the fact that the scandalous Weinstein Company produced the movie.

Channing wrote this in an Instagram post:

“The brave women who had the courage to stand up and speak their truth about Harvey Weinstein are true heroes to us. Our lone project in development with TWC – Matthew Quick’s brilliant book, Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock – is a story about a boy whose life was torn asunder by sexual abuse. While we will no longer develop it or anything else that is the property of TWC, we are reminded of its powerful message of healing in the wake of tragedy”

The decision Tatum made is incredibly sensible taking into account what the movie is based on. The author Matthew Quick wrote the book Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock about a misfit boy called Leonard. The boy plans to shoot his ex-best friend who sexually abused him, then kill himself on his birthday.

The Weinstein Company set up the movie in 2014. It would have been the first co-directorial experience for Tatum and his production partner Reid Carolin. The actor also said that he will refuse to work on anything else that is the property of TWC. Furthermore, he is hoping that his co-workers will make the same right decision.

Even politicians like Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, and Kristen Gillibrand  followed Tatum’s decision. They said that they will donate campaign funds received from Weinstein to charity. That is absolutely the right thing to do.

Hopefully, actors like Tatum will make a change in Hollywood about things that have been kept quiet for too long.
