Taylor Swift is rocking the world once again – and this time by way of movie soundtracks.
As The Daily Mail reports, the twenty-eight-year-old hitmaker’s song “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” is one of 70 songs chosen to compete in the “Best Original Song” category, awarded by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Taylor recorded the song for the not-so-well-received Fifty Shades Darker.
But the competition is strong – it includes Mariah Carey’s song “The Star” for the eponymous Christian animated film.
It’s Taylor Swift versus Mariah Carey, people.
Even if Taylor loses, though (is that even possible?!), the song is really catchy. Like:
Other competitors are not to be trifled with, though. There’s the song “Home” from Nick Jonas, which he made for the animated film “Ferdinand”, but also “Mudbound” by Mary J Blige, who made a posthumous homage to Chris Cornell.
Mariah Carey’s “The Star” is considered Taylor’s strongest competitor. But is she?
Out of 70, only five final nominations will make it for final consideration, by way of voting. But we will not know more until January 23, when the 90th Annual Academy Awards finally arrive. But it’s important to remember that there are a lot more songs than these in the 70 initial picks.
Who knows, maybe the Academy will surprise us? Imagine that, both TayTay and Mariah let down… What a day. But I bet that would disappoint a lot of fans, right? So, keep supporting your contender, and until January 23… Fingers crossed!
