Taylor Swift promoted the video for her new, long-anticipated single for “Look What You Made Me Do” at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night and the first reactions by critics and fans are overwhelmingly positive. On the new track, the singer confronts past versions of herself, as well as long-time rivals Kanye West and Katy Perry.
The goth video itself is nothing like the Taylor Swift we know, with the 27-year-old donning a full zombie outfit and makeup. In it, among other things, Swift drinks tea served by a snake, scowls while bathing in a tub full of diamonds and robs a vault with a posse of kitty cat-masked pals.
“Notably, at the end, a triumphant Swift stands atop a writhing pile of her former selves, all clawing and kicking at each other to make it to the top. Add to that a few jabs at her known music industry nemesis Kanye West and Katy Perry, and it’s clear that the old Taylor, as she says at one point in the song, really is dead,” Rolling Stone magazine writes.
