I honestly have no idea whether I will ever see the day of being a bride in a beautiful white gown, hand in hand with my dad walking me down the aisle.
My parents were a little bit older when they had me, so my biggest hope is that we will all be together on that day.
When I think of something happening either to my mom or dad, I feel like a hand is strongly clutching my heart, draining it of its blood.
Needless to say, I have a week spot for father daughter stories, and this particular one is exactly the kind that moves me to my core.
It’s a rather simple story with rather complex feelings.
Nikki married her boyfriend Matt in 2012 and all of their family and friends were there to share their joy.
St. Luke’s United Methodist Church was the church in which they promised their vows of uncompromising love and partnership in front of God.
The reception later took place at the Marriott North Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana. That’s where we get to see the plot twist to this beautiful story!
The video opens at the point at which the father is giving a toast to the bride and the groom. With a microphone in his hand and a speech written on a piece of paper, he starts the catharsis that is this special moment at the wedding.
“It’s a special time, a special day, but I’m gonna give something a try,” announced the father.
“I’d like to perform a slightly altered rendition of Eric Clapton’s ‘Wonderful Tonight’ in honor of the bride that briefly summarizes the day.”
We see a shot of the bride and the groom. The bride is short of breath, all flushed, mixed feelings of shock, heightened joy, love that rips at the seams.
The father starts singing. The lyrics go like this:
” It’s late in the morning,
There’s a bride to prepare.
They put on her makeup,
They brush her blonde red hair….”
As he sings, the video shows a montage of shots from the bride getting ready for her big day.
Needless to say, the bride starts crying immediately.
The video shows images that closely fit the lyrics: her father accompanying her down the aisle, them having the father daughter dance, the first kiss of the bride and the groom..
For the matter to be even more poignant, the voice of the father is trembling as he is singing….
At the end, the daughter goes to hug and kiss her father. I will let you take a look at the video yourselves.
