Two years ago, in April 2015, four teens did something very brave. Something we can’t forget today. On April 2, 2015, at 11:15 pm, Arnaud Nimenya, Carsyn Wright, James Hielema and Starlyn Rives-Perez were skateboarding in the underground parking lot at Chinook Mall, in Calgary, Canada. The brave teens managed to save a 15-year-old girl from a sexual assault. Their actions earned them the Award of Exceptional Recognition from Calgary’s Police Department at the Calgary Police Service Chief’s Awards Gala in 2016. The Internet still can’t forget about these heroes.

The four young Calgarians were casually skateboarding in an underground parking lot when they noticed something strange.
The youngsters noticed a man, who was very well-dressed, carrying a young girl. The girl appeared to be quite drunk and inebriated.
“She was screaming and yelling.” said Wright, one of the skateboarders, for the media.
That’s when the boy decided to go to ask the man what was going on. The man reassured them he was the girl’s father.
“You don’t want to really think of the worst in somebody like that. You don’t want that situation to be real, so you just brush it off and hope for the best,” Wright also added in an interview.
Although the boys left, they didn’t feel right about the situation. That’s why they decided to come back a couple of minutes later to check on the girl. They were shocked.

The man was sexually assaulting the girl.
“You walk in, and you see something like that, and you freeze. You don’t know what to do,” Nimenya said about his initial reaction. Although they were shocked, the four friends immediately rushed to help the girl.
“He was trying to walk out and walk away from us,” said Nimenya. “He pushed me aggressively out of the way, kinda like just gives me the smile, like, ‘I can do this. You can’t do anything about it.’”
Then, three of the young men started chasing the attacker off while one stayed behind with the girl. They ended up in a physical confrontation with the older man, but soon, the police arrived. The police arrested the man and charged him with sexual assault.
The young boys admit they were afraid to confront the man. Later they received a call from Chief Const. Roger Chaffin. He wanted to give them recognition for their bravery.
“We always thought we were going to be in trouble because we fought with him. When they called us, we didn’t wanna answer.”
Thanks to these boys’ heroic actions, the young girl was safe. Well done, boys!
