Identifying as the opposing gender from a young age and then changing it later on in your life is nothing new, in fact, currently there are over 1.4 million transgender adults living in the US.
And if you saw country musician Jaimie Wilson on the street in Florida, you might think he’s just an average, everyday, all-American heartthrob. But, as you might have guessed from my previous points, Jaimie was actually born a woman, and only recently made the full transformation, after kicking it off back in 2015.
“At first I was scared to come out as transgender because I didn’t give any ‘signs,’ as people say,” he writes on Instagram, where he has nearly 400 thousand followers. After 2 years of testosterone treatment, surgery, and hard work at the gym, 21-year-old Jaimie has sculpted himself into the man he’s always been at heart.
“People say that I’m trying too hard to be like a cisgendered male,” he told Cosmopolitan in a March 2017 interview, revealing the criticism he’s been given from his fellows in the transgender community for being ‘too masculine’.
The bottom line of it all? “You are NOT who people think you are, you are who you know you are,” in Jaimie’s own words. The aspiring country musician is making waves on social media, and is scheduled to perform at Sziget Festival in Budapest this August, alongside The Chainsmokers, P!nk, and Wiz Khalifa. See his unbelievable transformation for yourself below!
Here’s what he looked like when he was still a woman
Comparing to what he looks like now. I honestly wouldn’t be able to tell that he used to be a woman.
With all odds against him, in 2015 he began the transition into male, most notably with his testosterone injections.
He has posted a video on his channel comparing his voice throughout the years of injecting himself with testosterone.
“When I came out, people refused to believe I was a man because of how “feminine” I presented for 18 years” he stated.
At first, he began with small adjustments
This included cutting his hair and wearing men’s clothes, but then he began the testosterone injections.
He started by cutting his hair and wearing men’s clothes, then progressed to testosterone treatment
After 2 years of hard work, Jaimie has transformed himself into the man he’s always been at heart.
“I’ve lost my family and most of my friends since I started my transition but in the process I’ve found out who really cares about me”
He has actually been accused of being ‘too masculine’ and “trying too hard to be like a cisgendered male”.
He has sent out a powerful response on Instagram.
“Not everyone has to show ‘signs’ to be transgender. You don’t have to pass a test to prove you’re trans…”
“And you sure as hell don’t need ANYONE’S approval but your own”
“This life is about finding yourself and becoming YOU. No one’s journey is the same…”
This inspirational man is shutting down stereotypes, and his self-confidence is amazing.
