Legendary pop singer George Michael, who achieved planetary fame as part of the duo Wham! and during an illustrious solo career has passed away aged 53. It has been reported that Michael, born Georgios Kyriakos Panagiotou died of heart failure.
The police have reported that Michael, who was regarded as a sex symbol during his heyday, was found dead in his Oxfordshire home in southeastern England. According to a statement given to The Hollywood Reporter and the U.K. Press Association by his longtime manager Michael Lippman, that the pop star died peacefully in his bed in and his death is being classified as “unexplained but not suspicious.”
Michael’s publicist confirmed his death on Christmas Day by issuing the following statement:
“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period,”

“The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”
On Monday, fans gathered spontaneously outside Michael’s home to lay flowers, light candles and share their memories of his long career.

“Farewell My Friend! Another Great Artist leaves us,” tweeted Madonna.
“Having worked with him on a number of occasions his great talent always shone through and his self deprecating sense of humour made the experience even more pleasurable,” Paul McCartney wrote on his website.
