Meet Ajda Pekkan. The Turkish pop singer and actress, born in Istanbul, has had a career in showbiz spanning over 50 years. She has released 20 albums and sold 42 million copies worldwide, which makes her the most commercially successful Turkish perfor- Wait, wait, just hang on a minute there! Rewind the tape. What? A career of over five decades? Surely, there must be some mistake! Look at those photos; did she start working when she was a newborn?
Well, no. Believe it or not, the singer, nicknamed Superstar, was born in 1946. That means she is 71 years-old! You’ve got to be kidding me!
So what’s her secret?
Has she discovered the Fountain of Youth? Not really. Apparently, her recipe for eternally youthful looks includes regular exercise, cosmetic surgery, anti-ageing spa treatments, and consuming meat and fish, as reported by crnobelo.com.
On her social media, Ajda has said, “I’m always mindful of what I eat. But, I can’t say that I limit my options. For example, I love kebabs and fish.”
Ajda, who’s going to be 72 next February, has over 400,000 Instagram followers, and she frequently uploads pics of her glamorous life.
Does she have any advice for us? Yes. Yes, she does.
She says anyone who wants to remain young-looking for as long as possible (and who doesn’t?) can practice her routine, which is as follows:
“I take walks and I drink a lot of water. I couldn’t imagine life without water. Every morning I have a glass of water with some ginger, lemon, and honey. I’ve never endeavoured to be considered a beauty icon, but I have always taken good care of my body. Genetics and sports are very important for staying fit.”
Ajda Pekkan became famous in Turkey in the ’70s, when she took part in several films, before becoming a professional singer.
She represented Turkey at the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest.
Last year, she was invited to the United States for ‘The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Power 100’ event, as one of Turkey’s four most powerful women.
Despite her advanced age, Ajda is thinking about becoming a mother, and has consulted US and Indian doctors about artificial fertilisation!
What an inspiration. Who wouldn’t wish to look that good at her age? And it’s not all about the looks either. It’s her attitude as well. Don’t let your age stop you from doing what you want: you’re never to old to follow your dreams.
