The fitness editor of Popsugar, Jenny Sugar, has shared her two-weeks fitness challenge journey, which included doing 50 push-ups a day. Her story is not only amazing but also inspiring and, most important of all, downright achievable. Here’s how she did it.
Jenny admits how push-ups are still hard for her, although she’s been doing CrossFit for over a year. This, however, didn’t stop her from completing this challenge.
Feeling excited and nervous at the same time, she began exercising, but not before she set certain rules:
“Do all 50 at once. I could break them up into sets, or do them one at a time, but I had to do all 50 as quick as possible (AQAP)”.
“Do them with straight legs. I knew if I wanted to strengthen my upper body and core enough to do push-ups this way, I had to do push-ups without my knees on the floor. I did as many as I could parallel to the floor, then when my upper body got tired, I elevated my hands on a bench, stair, or balancing between two chairs or yoga blocks”.
Jenny shares more details on her challenge and some important things to note:
1. You might be very sore at first
It makes sense as you do 50 from day one. According to Jenny, you need to be prepared to feel extremely sore. But don’t worry, it will go away!
2. The most important thing to realize is that it gets easier each day
She admits to doing only 10 push-ups at once at first before the number went up gradually. She built strength that trickled down to other areas of her life as well, including her workouts, her family, and her work. Her everyday challenge soon turned into something very achievable with persistence and determination.
3. You will eventually stop hating push-ups
Even though you sucked at doing them in the beginning, they will start to grow on you.
4. You will constantly forget about the challenge
She admits that she forgot to do them from time to time. That’s why it’s best to set a reminder on your phone.
5. Keep track
If you have a daily calendar, write down the time you need in order to make 50 push-ups and watch yourself improve every day.
